MasterDetail - Master Refresh

I've been building a solution on MasterDetail v2 and I have a couple of issues:

1) After selecting All, doing a search with the QuickFind filed or even selecting an item from the Master list, the displayed record is not "Active".  Because it's not active, none of the record menus are active;  New Record, Delete Record, etc...  as well as the tab order.

2) Creating a new record gets a little flakey too.  The record is entered and in the list.  The problem is the record listed is not the new record and when you click on it the Master portal is updated with a different set of information and you loose where the new record went.

Any help would be appreciated.
