Hi,

Is it possible to import GMS, Visual modflow and Groundwater vista
project files into Model muse. what is the advantage and disadvantage
comparing all these GUI? Which one is best?

Can we import nam. files ( conceptual model translated into umerical
moodel using Hydrogeobuilder) into Modelmuse. We had importing this
into groundwater vista?

What is the advantage of using Modelmuse? Limitations?
Can we run PEST witin ModelMuse interface?

What about modelling varaible density flow like simulating head at
coastal areas? Can we neglect varaible density in coastal area
modelling? - would there be major error due to this asumption?

Regards,
Yohannes

ModelMuse can import MODFLOW models that work with the USGS version of
MODFLOW-2005. However, ModelMuse will only import the packages it
supports so you should check whether ModelMuse supports all the packages
in your model before trying to import it. I think you should be able to
import Groundwater Vistas models without any problems. I'm not sure
about Visual MODFLOW. In the past Visual MODFLOW had some additional
packages that were not in the standard version of MODFLOW. If you
commented out those packages, you would probably be able to import it.
MODFLOW models generated by GMS often can not be run with the USGS
version of MODFLOW without some hand alteration of the input files.
First you must make sure that the input files are in what GMS claims are
the standard formats. However, those still need some additional changes
before they will work. GMS input files often put file names quotes. The
USGS version of MODFLOW does not accept quotes and in addition, the file
names can not contain any spaces. There may be additional changes
required but that is what comes to mind at present.

With regard to models generated by Hydrogeobuilder, you should be able
to import those but you will import the numerical model not the
conceptual model.

ModeleMuse can not run PEST. However, you can use to run UCODE which
performs a similar function. To run UCODE, you also need ModelMate.

Variable density flow can be modeled with SEAWAT which is not currently
supported by ModelMuse. With regard to whether you can neglect variable
density flow, that depends on what the goal of your model is and what
the area you are trying to model is like.

With regard to the advantages and limitations of ModelMuse compared with
other GUI's, I'll leave that to others to answer.

Hi Richard.
I wanted to start learning/using Model Muse (I use Vistas and VMod) but I was discouraged by the fact that it cannot run PEST!!! Are there planning to include this capability to Model Muse?

Not that I support in particular usage of commercial softwares, but atleast Vmod has PEST capabilities. It does lack ability to have pilot point implementation!

Could you send your model to saulm...@hatarilabs.com and I will make a tutorial about it. Please note that the model will be public.

That the model will be open for anyone to download and reproduce the procedure. It could be a draft version.

Hi everyone,

I am currently on an issue about my joint research on groundwater modelling. My partner, who has been working on the model preparation, constructed the model using visual modflow as his interface, while I have only GMS to open his file. I found that the file type is different and GMS cannot open visual modflow file. However, we have no more budget to buy visual modflow, and it is very tedious to build the model from scratch again through GMS. Have anyone of you had this experience before? And anyone is willing to help me solving this problem? Thank you in advance.
