Hi. I'm beginning on Visual MODFLOW right now. And I'm getting a
'abnormal
termination' while running the MODFLOW 2000, and it says to look for
details on LST file, but I'm not able to recognize the problem. Can
anyone help me???
I think it is a convergence error, what kind of solutions or checks
should be done?

Thanks in advance,

Hi Juan,

I think that you have to carefully check your model parameterization,
focusing on hydraulic parameters distribution and boundary conditions.
Before this, you can test the performance of other solvers contained in
Visual Modflow. Also, you can change parameterization of WHS Solver,
which you are probably using. For example, you could change the damping
factor value or increase the number of iterations.

Best regards,
Vassilios

Vassilios, thank you very much, the problem I have been solved by
removing erroneous data that was in the starting parameters
(recharging data).
Best Regards
Juan

hello sir,
i am facing same problem during running modflow that abnormal termination and it say look details for LST file and i am unable to recognize this problem so what parameter you changes so that you get final change
thank you

try sending the last few lines of the lst file in order to inform more about the problem.

increase the number of outer iterations to 2000 and inner to 500.
You have troubble in running the transport problem. Check it thoroughly if things are fine.
Is it a variable density problem?

yes it is a variable density problem. and i change the outer iteration to 2000 and inner iteration to 500 and now i am also faces same problem

Variable density problems do not always converge to a solution and plenty of authors do point about these problems. Try going through the literature to find how things work.
One step you can take is to decrease the cell size and the courant number! This will increase the numerical size of the problem but might result in convergence. Start from a simple problem and then make it complex step by step. In this case you will be able to know which step s creating trouble.
Can hou describe the problem you are trying to solve with SEAWAT.

I was solved this by changing the closure criteria in the solver, but its very tricky,

Actually first i am running the tutorial problem. for this tutorial problem please see the attachment
after "abnormal termination look LST file" when i am click on output it show following things
UCN file does not exist, can not calculate fresh water heads
and after that it shows " HDS file not found run modflow first"

dear An Ho Antonio taylor
can you please tell me what solver and closure criteria you took, so that your problem is solved
thank you
