Hi Everyone!
My name is Amit and I have been working as Hydrogeologist in an Environment consultancy. I have past 10 years peizometer data and I want to do ground water modelling of my study area. Can anybody help me to achieve this? What process should I follow? Like do I need to create shape file of my study area at first. How do I insert the peizometer data into Modflow. What packages do I need to apply and all. I have to submit report in this week.
Thank you & Best Regards
Amit Khandelwal

Hi Amit,

buy the Visual MODFLOW-Flex and download the user manual (link below). The manual includes examples of how to construct a model. Modelling is usually a time consuming task. NO way you can finish it in a week.

good luck,

Ayman

Hi amit,
10 years data would be sufficient to calibrate the model. You also need additional data like elevation, boundary conditions and soil properties to start with the modelling. it is better to Use GUI's for modelling since you are a beginner. You can either use Visual MODFLOW flex or Model muse for modelling.  You will have to create a shapefile of the study area. Inserting piezometric data can be done by defining wells in modflow. all the steps are available in various tutorials of modflow.

Hi Asha,

You don't need to buy a commercial GUI to use the newest Modflow. Modflow is free and the GUI ModelMuse is one way to build most of the pieces of your models. I also have additional Design/Build/Use Guidance Packages for Modflow-OWHM applications too.
Cheers,

I strongly agree with you Randall. You don't need a commercial GUI to run the latest Modflow tools.

Hi,

I would support any commercial GUI if it was even half as good as Modelmuse.
I have talked to expert users of commercial GUIs and the only thing they said was 'No it's not possible in this software'.
I can insert an exponential function to depthwise assign decreasing bedrock conductivities in Modelmuse, irrespective of what layer discretization i use.
And its just one of the things impossible to do in any other GUIs, then global variables etc.

Its just not worth it throwing money on these softwares.

Hi Randy-

I'd like to learn more about the Design/Build/Use Guidance Packages for Modflow-OWHM applications you've developed.  I can always use a better way to wrangle MODFLOW data!

Cheers,
Peter

Hi,
I also agree with You all. My suggestion was to use a GUI. I did not mention commercial GUI.  I had suggested model muse  also knowing it is a free software.
Thank you all
