Hi all,

I am trying to convert a MODFLOW-96 model to MODFLOW-2005. I decide to
do it step by step and convert it to MODFLOW-2000 first. I tried to
use the mf96to2k tool developed by the USGS but it says that the
allowed array size is not big enough.

Do you think it is my computer’s RAM issue? Or is my model size (i.e.
number of cells) too large?

Is there a way to solve this issue?

Many thanks in advance.

Chris

try to compile the source codes with a different array size

Chris,
If you cannot recompile the tool, then another option is to convert
your model in pieces. Perhaps you can convert one layer at a time.
For this you may need to place your model information into a database
so you can extract it in sections. Once you get the general form of
the arrays for MODFLOW-2005, you can copy/paste the sections into a
single file with some editing to make sure the layer information is
correct. Not an elegant solution but it should work. Good Luck.

Chris,

If you have a Fortran compiler, edit mf96to2k.inc to increase the size of the LENX parameter, compile the code, and try again.

If you do not have a Fortran compiler, let me know (erb...@usgs.gov) and I will work with you.  Please send the error message you get.

Regards,

Ned

Thanks a lot Giovanni, Brume and Ned, greatly appreciated! It turns
out to be a computer issue (RAM?).
