Hi everyone,
I’m working on a MODFLOW 2005 model using ModelMuse (2.12.0.0).
I’m at a point where I get satisfactory Normal Termination of
Simulation runs and would now like to try out the ModelMate and UCODE
interface and calibration software.
From reading the ModelMate report I gathered there are two steps to
create an input file .mtc from ModelMuse.
I've defined Observations. The problem is that the ModelMuse menu item
Model|ModelMate Interface does’t appear, and the model runs don’t
create a .mtc file, so there is nothing I can export.
Could you let me know if there may be something I have overlooked or
a procedure that I could be skipping .?
I also notice there isn’t a PVAL file produced after a model run.
I'm a beginner with MODFLOW and ModelMuse and have not used parameters
to define any properties, this is probably the reason I don’t get
a .PVAL file.
Could this cause the failure to create an .mtc file?

Thank you, your comments and suggestions are greatly appreciated!
ML

Miguel,

To make the best use of the ModelMuse - ModelMate connection, you'll need to use parameters in ModelMuse to define the model inputs that you want to calibrate.

After you've set up parameters that you want to calibrate in ModelMuse, you can create a ModelMate file by using the menu item File | Export | Export or Update ModelMate File.

Thank you so much Ned, .
I went in the direction you suggested and have now exported a file
with 2 parameters for packages:
LPF and RIV
The other packages I'm using are:
- HOB; this is a steady state model for which I will first try to
calibrate HK using one set of Head Observations.
- CHD; for which the head boundary values will be constant.

So as far as I can tell the .mtc file should be complete, unless
parameters also need to be fixed in the case
of packages HOB & CHD. I take it that if this were a transient model
that would be the case.

Could you please let me know if there is something else you reckon I
should define a parameter for, or something one should verify before
moving onto ModelMate and Parameter Estimation.
For example if i don't specially want to calibrate parameters
associated to the RIV package, should it be left out?

Thanks again so much for your time and response.

You may want to define other parameters in addition to HK parameters in the LPF package.  If you even think at some point you might want to manipulate other parameters (e.g. vertical or horizontal anisotropy, or vertical hydraulic conductivity of the layer or underlying confining bed) it is probably worthwhile to go ahead and define those properties at the start using parameters...if you don't want to let UCODE_2005 manipulate them now, just set them as fixed.

Often, modelers find they return to this step ("parameterization") multiple times during the modeling process, so I would say go ahead and start using ModelMate and UCODE_2005 to analyse your model.  It usually makes sense to start out by making a forward run and checking the results before jumping into a sensitivity or parameter-estimation run.

The HOB and CHD files do not have parameters.

hello sir
i find this information very useful
i m also using modelmate for calibration but i having a problem
problem is that it is creating hob.jif file instead of os.jif (as given in instruction)
could u help is their any problem with my modflow file?
