I may need to investigate a groundwater mounding problem with more
than a one dimensional, analytical model.
Could someone recommend a preprocessor for MODFLOW that is GIS
based? I am investigating MODFLOW analyst for use in ArcGIS but have
not been able to learn much yet.
What do you think of the free, non-GIS based Processing Modflow 5.3.0
preprocessor? The interface seems clunky to me.

I am the author of ModelMuse and the MODFLOW GUI (which is a plug-in for
Argus ONE) so I'm most familiar with those. Both have some GIS
functionality built-in and can import Shapefiles. ModelMuse is
completely free. The MODFLOW GUI
(http://water.usgs.gov/nrp/gwsoftware/mfgui4/modflow-gui.html) is free
but requires a license for Argus ONE to operate.
I know very little about the MODFLOW Analyst. Here's what I've found on
the web.
According to http://www.aquaveo.com/archydro "The MODFLOW Analyst will
be available at an introductory cost of $1500 US." and has now been
released. Aquaveo is the same company that makes GMS.
