Hi all,

I have a question about Visual MODFLOW. I have finished interpolation
of initial heads in ArcMAP. And the results fit good compared to the
control points.

When I interpolated in Visual MODFLOW. I could not get such good
results. I plan to import the results interpolated with ArcMAP in
Visual MODFLOW.

Is there a method to import initial heads without interpolation in
Visual MODFLOW? I mean directly importing the interpolated results of
ArcMAP (shape files, or raster files).

Thanks in advance.

Hi Michael,

I guess there are more than one way to do it.

One way is editing the VIH (initial head file) file directly. You may
need to do some testing and see how rows and columns are counted in
VIH as it is not documented in the user manual. Then you may need to
write a script (e.g. macro) to convert your initial head data into
appropriate format.

Another simplier way is using Groundwater Vistas. Its import and
export functionality is much better. You can simply import you initial
head data into Groundwater Vistas and then export it as a head file.
Then you can use the head file as initial heads in VIsual MODFLOW
directly.

Hope this helps.

Kind regards

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the suggestion. I've looked into the VIH file. The VIH uses
zones and assigns values to different zones, like the way assigning K,
RCH and ET etc. So it will be hard to allocate individual zone and
value to each cell. And unfortunately, I don't have Groundwater
Vistas packages.

I may modify the BAS file after Visual MODFLOW transfer the files
before running.

Again, thanks, good day,

Michael

Hello Chris,

I realize that this post is from 4 years ago, but if you or anyone else could help me I would appreciate it. My model is not converging and I know that I need to change the head file using Groundwater Vistas, but I'm having trouble figuring out exactly how to do so. My professor suggested I try going to Model, Package Options, the Initial Heads tab, and use the option for a SURFER package and browse for my head save file. I have done this, but it hasn't helped the model converge. In fact, it makes it run longer and it still doesn't converge.

Am I missing any steps or do you have different instructions?

Thank you,

Hi all,

I am new user of Visual Modflow.
This is my problem:
A river divides into two branches which join. The river is in connection with the groundwater of 20 m height. The river is supposed to be a limit at constant head for the groundwater.

How can I construct this model on Visual Modflow?
Thank you for your responses.
