Hi everyone,

I'm developing a MODFLOW-USG model in Groundwater Vistas where the ground surface elevation increases over time due to progressive material deposition.

How can I represent this changing topography? As far as I understand, the Transient IBOUND option in Groundwater Vistas can't be applied to model cells. Is there another approach to represent the addition of material over time?

Thanks,

Joaquín

I'm not sure why would you need to do that unless you explicitely simulate the unsaturated zone using the UZF package for instance. If you only simulate saturated flow, everything above the water table is translated into boundary conditions.

You could have the top elevation be the highest it will ever reach. Then use a series of drains at progressively higher elevations to represent the true ground elevation. The conductance of these drains should be high enough that if the water table reaches them all excess water will be drained away.
