OBJECTIVES
The short-term course aims to include the following themes with particular emphasis on groundwater modelling: GIS, Modelling Fundamentals, Finite Difference Techniques, Groundwater Modelling using MODFLOW, Integrated Catchment Modelling using MIKE SHE etc.
COURSE CONTENTS
§ Hydrological processes simulated by MODFLOW / MIKE SHE
§ Mechanisms used to couple the hydrological processes
§ Hydraulic flow modelling in streams and rivers using MIKE 11
§ Water quality modelling
§ Pitfalls of integrated groundwater/surface water modelling
§ How to set up and run a model in MODFLOW / MIKE SHE
§ How to evaluate results of MODFLOW / MIKE SHE
§ Calibration strategies for a groundwater / integrated model
§ Hands-on exercises
DATES AND VENUE
The Training Course shall be held at the National Institute of Hydrology, Roorkee, during February 2 - 6, 2015.
ELIGIBILITY OF PARTICIPANTS AND PREREQUISITES
The course is intended for all middle/senior level engineers from central and state government, professionals and officers working in the field of water resources, irrigation, agriculture and related areas, as well as faculty from Universities and Colleges, research scholars, and students etc. The course is targeted at both new users of MODFLOW and MIKE SHE as well as water resources professionals who want to expand their modelling experience. Prior experience with MODFLOW or MIKE SHE or surface water modelling would be an asset, but is not mandatory.
COURSE TRAINERS The trainers are experienced professionals and water resources modellers drawn from NIH, DHI, IIT Roorkee and other field experts.
SEATS The numbers of seats are limited to 35. The registration shall be done on first come first served basis.
ABOUT THE VENUE
Roorkee is located at the foothills of Himalayas in the Uttarakhand state. The railway station is on the main line of northern railways having direct link with all metropolitan cities. Roorkee is also within easy reach from Delhi by road (180 km) and is located on Delhi-Hardwar and Delhi-Dehradun bus routes.

REGISTRATION FEE
The registration fee per participant shall be Rs. 20,000/- for the Central/State Govt. Officers/University Faculty/Professionals from Private Companies; and Rs. 10,000/- for Indian students (limited to 5 seats only). The registration fee will include boarding and lodging, registration kit, course material etc. The participants are requested to register themselves by giving desired details in the registration form (also available at www.nih.ernet.in) latest by January 20, 2015, along with a demand draft in favour of NIH Project payable at Roorkee.
