Hi everyone,

I imported an conceptual model built in Leapfrog 4.0 in to MODFLOW Flex 6.0 and I can't set the Model Domain in the correct grid position.

The model was exported form Leapfrog  (.nam) with the correct grid references:

 The grid, in MODFLOW FLex was setted correctely as weel:
ModFLowGrid.PNG

However, I can't shift the "Model Boundary" to this position. Therefore, its not possible to make any progress in the model.

Could someone help me with this issue, please?

Thank you in advance!

Hello Roberto,

I went through exactly this experience with Visual Modflow Flex and LeapFrog. Long story short, this is a known issue in Version 6.x. The Visual Modflow developers made some changes specifically for this issue that as far as I know were implemented in Version 7.0.

Thanks, J.P. Brandenburg!

Its possible to solve this issue  through the following steps?
- import the leapfrog file into Mod Flow Classic;
- manually edit the .vmf file with the right coordinates;
- import the .vmf into ModFlow Flex 6.X.

I tried and it didnt work. I am wondering if I am not editing the vmf correctely or the version 6.x have the same issue for importing .vmf files.

I think there are just some fundamental issues working with imported grids in version 6, even if you have the files set up really perfectly before you import them. I never found a completely satisfactory solution. What I ended up doing was to export the grid layers as .csv files, shift them to the right location in excel, import the grid layers as surfaces, build a conceptual model using that layering, then very carefully set up the grid to have the same x,y coordinates. When you convert the point data to surfaces you can also force the grids to line up and use the 'nearest neighbor' method with 1 neighbor to get back exactly the horizons that LeapFrog built. Which is far from ideal. But, as I said, I think they've dealt with this and you shouldn't need to go that route. Probably a better bet is to install the newest version of visual modflow that you can get (ideally version 7), then if you get stuck in the same place, engage the Waterloo Hydrogeologic support folks. They're interested in having the LeapFrog to VisualModflow process be a smooth one. Good luck!
