Hello everyone,

I am working on a "simple" MODFLOW model that I created using ModelMuse, and after getting it to run to completion I am now attempting to import the parameters and observations into ModelMate to calibrate the model and hopefully optimize the parameters. My model involves a small unconfined alluvial delta with a single stream and a pumping well. I have defined what I can with parameters and have four observation wells, each with two head observations (4 head observations in stress period 1, 4 head observations in stress period 2). This is a steady state model with two stress periods (the first without pumping and the second with pumping). I am able to get this model to run to completion in ModelMuse, but when I try to calibrate it with ModelMate (UCODE) I run into this problem:

-- UCODE cannot read my model output files(?). I am using the "ModelMate_tutorial.pdf" file that comes with the ModelMate directory as a template. After successfully getting the  “tc1” MODFLOW-2005 (Harbaugh, 2005) model to work with ModelMate, I am using the same steps with my model to no avail. After importing all of the parameters and observations, assigning a model command line, and creating the UCODE Input files, I attempt to run UCODE on forward mode. In the windows command window, the program appears to evoke MODFLOW and solves my two stress periods. A line below says "Normal termination of simulation" but then another line directly below says "Error reading model output file(s): cannot open model output file   ...hob_out.".   When I view the UCODE Main Output File (...main_out.#uout) it displays my observations and parameters as it should but after the line that says "END ECHO OF INPUT - REPORT RESULTS OF SIMULATION" I get a line that reads [Error in instruction: " " ]. My Model-Output File and Instruction file are listed in within ModelMate, although I cannot find the instruction file saved anywhere (I can find and read the "... .hob_out" file but there is no "... .hob_out.jif" file saved anywhere except listed under the Model-Output and Instruction Files window in ModelMate). I have read all of the ModelMate instruction file, and using the Model|Create Instruction Files For Observations Defined In ModelMuse function does not solve my problem.

I have tried everything I can think of. There are no spaces in the file names or anything like that. Any ideas or similar issues?!?

Thanks for the help!
(Ned Banta I'm hoping you see this!)

Hi, I am coming across the same problem, and have no idea how to get around it. Did you manage to solve your issue?

Thanks in advance!
