This came out last month and I would like to know if anybody else is interested in playing the Atomic Robo RPG for our next Indie Game Night, September 4th.

Fate is a well designed generic system using Fudge dice and the Atomic Robo rulebook is specifically geared to playing an adventure inspired by the titular comics: mad science, pulp adventure, talking dinosaurs, plus all around sass & wisecracking.

Rather than somebody playing Robo and everybody else one of the side characters, I think it wouldn't be too hard to come up with a Tesladyne Action Science team to go off on a mission.  This would almost certainly be heavily influenced by all the awesomely crappy & crappily awesome sci-fi B movies from the 50s...

I also realize I am intensely biased on this subject , so any alternate suggestions are certainly welcome.

I promise these suggestions will be considered seriously, fully and grudgingly.

Like Matt, I'm a big fan of AR, I'm all for an Atomic Robo game and I've never tried the Fate System (I'm soooo behind the times), so I'm curious from that standpoint as well.

So, count me in!

This sounds like fun! Ep & I will be away, unfortunately on the next Indie Game Night. :(

I should be able to attend, and I'm interested on how his puppy works, since I've never had a Fate game 100% click for me. I'm also intrigued about character creation, since Robo himself is such a singular character.

...unless there is a Dinosaur Genius splat. Then it would all make sense.

I am 100% down for this. I just bought the game because I love Fate Core so much (it clicks for me, definitely) but I don't know squat about the comic books or anything. I'd rather avoid canonical characters so I don't feel like I'm missing the joke for the whole game, y'know? But a squad of action science newbies out on an early mission would be great. The game looks like a lot of fun (but DUH because it's Fate Core).

I'll be there!

You realize, of course, that you've just given Beisler the ultimate opportunity to hand-sell you every trade of Atomic Robo we have.
(It's really good; join us...)

The Atomic Robo comics are completely fantastic and I recommend them unreservedly.

Indeed, some people might wish I had more reservations about trying  to get others into Robo.  Those people are wrong!

Ahem.

Eon, if you have the core book and feel comfortable making a Weird character, by all means do so.  For everybody else, we are going to use the basic character creation rules because they are 1) quick and flexible, 2) Weird character creation would take way too long and 3) I can't figure out the rules for Weird character creation (the book is rather poorly laid out in this section, sadly).  If all goes well, Sam, we will make interesting original characters who aren't robots.

All you will need tomorrow is a basic character concept, a fair amount can be filled out during play..  Just keep the following in mind:

Early 1950s setting
You are an Action Scientist.  You are proactive, competent and dramatic.
At this point Tesladyne is an aerospace firm still heavily dependent on military contracts but is not under the command of the US military nor what we would today consider a private military corporation.  Engineering, consulting, and investigating dangerous/weird science, and being properly equipped to do these things, sure.  But employees of Tesladyne are not soldiers (although of course some members are veterans).
If you work for Tesladyne, you are probably in some way an outsider.  Perhaps your research expertise is...unorthodox.  Maybe your family is "new money".  Perhaps your political views are controversial.  Regardless, there is some reason why you aren't directly working for Boeing, the US military or some Ivy League brain trust.
Action Scientist is a designation for field operatives, not a specific job description.  Tesladyne employees come from a wide variety of professions, from physicist to mechanic.  Rest assured, if you're a mechanic at Tesladyne, your lab is the garage and gets funding for experiments just like the guys doing Nth-dimensional math down the hall.  If you're a geologist, you can expect to be sent to a volcano to do Action Geology.

Ugh. Woke up feeling sick today, so I'm afraid I won't make it to play Atomic Robo after all. Applesauce!
Have fun tonight and I'll hope to see you all next month.
