Yesterday J.W. Mason, an economics prof at John Jay College (part of
City University of New York), published a post on Substack,
Talking about Against Money at the New School, which is essentially a preview of a forthcoming book,
Against Money,
which he co-wrote with Arjun Jayadev. At over 9700 words, this post is
6 to 11 times too long for a Substack post, but I think subscribers to
this list should work their way through it anyway. What I've read so
far is a good discussion of the heterodox approach to money from the
18th century to the present, with particular focus on the defects of the
mainstream, "loanable funds" approach to banking. I've just gotten up
to the part where Minsky enters the picture.
