Ever wonder what it would be like to set up a sovereign currency for a newly independent nation state?

You can get a taste of that by attending the Scottish Currency Group Conference - 2025 this coming Saturday and Sunday, October 25-26, in Dumferline, Scotland. You can do so in person or remotely by registering at that URL. This is not free, but the online registration is quite cheap, IMO: less than 19 quid.

This was mentioned by British political economist Richard Murphy on his blog today. Murphy will be speaking (remotely) at the conference at 2:45 pm BDT (9:45 am EDT) on Saturday, October 25; topic: "Money." What also looks interesting is "Currency & Policy Proposals for an Independent Scotland," by Prof Thiebault Laurentjoye at 3:55 pm BDT (10:55 am EDT).

Note that Britain reverts from Daylight to Standard time early Sunday morning, so times posted for the conference's Sunday session are presumably in BST.

I tuned into a livestream on [YouTube](https://www.youtube.com/live/NACjNXCP5KI) as I was sipping my coffee.  I was jolted to attention when the speaker, whom I had not previously heard of, put up a slide labeled Sectoral Balances! Looking forward to Richard Murphy's presentation in an hour-and-a-half.

Hi Warren,

I’m reading Modern Monetary Theory: Bill & Warren's Excellent Adventure but I’m a bit confused about who is narrating the story.

In the intro, you say Bill did most of the writing, but it reads like there’s a third character commenting on what you and Bill did. Did Bill set himself up with an alter ego as the narrator? Or is there a third person narrating the story?

Thanks — I love the book. :-)
