Dear Sir/Madam,

The History Association of the Centre for Historical Studies,
Jawaharlal Nehru University, would like to invite you to a student
faculty discussion, ‘Three Hundred Ramanujans among Us: The Politics
and Culture of Remembering the Past in Contemporary India’.

In the light of the decision of the Academic Council of Delhi
University to remove the essay ‘Three Hundred Ramayanas: Five Examples
and Three Thoughts on Translation’ by A. K. Ramanujan we hope to look
at the broader context of the culture and politics of the ways in
which the past is remembered and forgotten and how it is understood by
society at large. Attached you will find a short note with some of the
issues that we would like to have discussed. The event will take place
at 10.30 a.m.on 10 November, 2011 at the SSS-1 Committee Room, JNU.
Prof. Janaki Nair will introduce the issue, Prof. Uma Chakravarti and
Dr. Ramnika Gupta will initiate the discussion.

We hope that you will be able to attend the discussion and enrich it
with their comments and contributions, as well as encourage others,
especially students, to join.

Please find attached the note for the discussion

Regards,

The History Association.
CHS, JNU.
