Hello all,

a few days ago we received a post from our user Mulugeta W., who complained about Modelur Buildings not loadin properly once saved into the .skp model and reopened at some later time. He then sent us the file, where we saw that Modelur Buildings were nested inside his own groups.

SOLUTION:
Do not add Modelur Buildings to your own groups. If Buildings are inside the groups defined by yourself, Modelur will not be able to find them when intialized. At the moment, you can still use layers to separate Modelur Buildings. However, if you decide to put the Buildings into groups, you can later explode that groups (not groups representing Buildings!) and Modelur will be able to find them when you reopen the model.

The reason for this behaviour is that we do not want to overload SketchUp at Modelur initialization when large models with many nested groups...

Best regards,
Jernej

HiJernej,

Does this mean if buildings are in separate layers, if the layer is turned off the buildings in it are not included in the overall site calcs and summary?

This or some other means of toggling a building in or out of the calculations would be a great way of evaluating alternative development options without having to create separate SU files.

Regards and thanks again for your exceptional work

Hi Gary,

the functionality you are mentioning is unfortunately still not implemented, but it is definitely on our roadmap.
So yes, at the moment all Buildings present in the model (even if hidden) are still taken into account when calculating
the summary...

Will put higher priority to it!

Cheers,
Jernej

Thx Jernej,

I was able to use your 'summarise selected buildings' as a workaround but having them toggled by layer would be a more organised approach..

As always,, you guys aways impress

You're welcome Gary!

You'r workaround is great, but we need to make these things automatic! :-)
I think we will be able to push this funcionality to our next release (0.4.1).

Cheers,
Jernej

Hi Gary,

a quick update - we've just released Modelur 0.4.1, which now calculates urban control values only for visibile buildings. This way you can now create several alternatives, put them to different layers and turn them on/off to compare results... :-)

Best,
Jernej

Hi Jernej,

The new patch worked fine and makes for a very flexible process..

I have a few other things to table but will put them in another thread..

Great work thx
