Hello,
I have been having problems installing/loading Modelur of any version on either of my versions on SU8 and SU13.
I tried Modelur 0.4.4 and 0.4.5 versions. As well as the latest Beta trial version. None of them seem to work.

Some of the error msgs i get are:
Error Loading File C:/Program Files (x86)/SketchUp/SketchUp 2013/Plugins/Modelur/lib/ext/ruby/fileutils
Could not find included file 'C:/Program Files (x86)/SketchUp/SketchUp 2013/Plugins/Modelur/lib/ext/ruby/fileutils'

OR

(attached file)

And later the Modelur dialouge box appears and shows that its initiating, but fails load at all.

Any answers, suggestions would be much appreciated!

Hello Rainshanghai,

thank you for your feedback. Could you please try the following:

  1. Close SketchUp.
  2. Delete Modelur installation and its settings:
    1. Delete folder /Modelur in C:/Program Files (x86)/SketchUp/SketchUp 2013/Plugins/
    2. Delete file modelur.rb in C:/Program Files (x86)/SketchUp/SketchUp 2013/Plugins/
    3. Delete folder /Modelur in C:/Documents and Settings/YOUR_USERNAME/AppData/Roaming/
  3. Reinstall Modelur.
  4. See if it works.

Please let me know if you are now able to run Modelur...

Best,
Jerenj

Hi Jerenj,

Thanks for the reply!
I already tried deleting all the folders and .rb files and re-installing Modelur twice. It still shows me the same error.
When I load the plugin it shows me the error in script as the attached file and when i click yes to run the script anyway, it says its initializing user interface but it does not load at all.

BTW, I am in china and I use proxy to connect to the internet, does this affect anything?

i am on Win 7 64 bit system.

Hello Ra,

I think this problem is not related to the fact you are behind a proxy in China. Although this could cause a problem, it would have been of different kind.

I'll hand this discussion over to Žiga, he's our lead UI developer and he might have a clue what's going on with the script errors you're getting.

As for the fileutils error you are getting, could you please replace the modelur_fileutils.rb with the file I'm attaching to this email:
  1. Go to C:/Program Files (x86)/SketchUp/SketchUp 2013/Plugins/Modelur/lib/ext/ruby/
  2. Replace modelur_fileutils.rb with the one in attached .zip file

Please let me know if there are some useable results.

Thanks,
Jernej

Hello Rainshanghai,

it is extremely important that you fully delete Modelur folder (not just its content) for the user you are trying to run Sketchup+Modelur for. Any user-specific files left from any previous installations could trigger problems you are experiencing.

Also could you please post the full "YOUR_USERNAME" part of the "C:/Documents and Settings/YOUR_USERNAME/AppData/Roaming/" path from the step 2.3 of initial answer from Nejc? Does it contain any non-ASCII characters? If you prefer not to disclose your username publicly, please send us a private e-mail to sup...@modelur.com.

Did you successfully run any of the Modelur releases on the same machine you are experiencing the problems or is this a new Modelur install? Do you use any other SketchUp plugins together with Modelur?

Best regards,
Ziga

Hello Ziga,
Thanks for your message.

Here is the full path:
C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Roaming

This is the first time I am using Modelur on this PC. When .5.1 didnt work i tried 0.4.5 version not knowing that it has been discontinued.

I have deleted all the folders from everywhere multiple times with no result.

I still get the same error when i install and run Modelur.

I have also tried to follow the same method on another PC with same system config. to check if its my system. But the problem is the same.
Modelur says its initialising but does launch at all, the interface does not show up.

Regards,
Wobs

Hello Wobs,

can you please do the following:
  1. Close SketchUp
  2. Start SketchUp
  3. Open Ruby console, located under SketchUp menu Window
  4. Initialize Modelur

Please let us know if there is anything printed out to Ruby Console once you initialize Modelur.

If possible, can you try installing latest version of SketchUp Make 2016 and installing Modelur on it to see if it works?

Best,

Jernej

Hi Jernej,

There is nothing printed out to Ruby Console when i run modelur.
I will try running modelur on the latest SU version then.

Hello Wobs,

thank you for a quick reply.

Do you get the same errors when you close Modelur UI and try to initialize it again (without closing SketchUp)?

Do you use any other SketchUp plugins?

Best,
Jernej

Hi Jernej,

I have tried all of the following with no results:
- Deleted all the folders/files of Modelur and Re-installed. Restarted SU.

- Upgraded to SU16 and re-installed Modelur. No error regarding the scripts, but Modelur does not load anyway.

- No matter how many times I close and re-initiate Modelur its the same error.

- I have also disabled all the other plugins i use with SU before starting Modelur. (other plugins: Make Face
1.4, Drop GC, and other inbuilt plugins)

Regards,
Wobs

Hi Wobs,

this is driving me crazy... :-(

How about if you try:

1. disable Modelur (in the Window > Preferences > Extensions)
2. close SketchUp
3. open SketchUp
4. open Ruby Console
5. enable Modelur back

Do you get any errors printed out to Ruby console this way?

Best,
Jernej

Hey Jernej,

I did what you said with the same results. :/
No errors on ruby console. Still showing scripting errors.
BTW what is the license key i received in the email for? Am i supposed to use it somewhere? Or is it for later activation at the end of trial?

Sorry for the frustration this is causing. If these all the options there are, I will try to redo the process once my system is upgraded next week.

Thanks again,
wobs

Hi Wobs,

no worries - we are glad you are working with us to solve this problem. We are apologizing to you for having this troubles...

It seems that everything is OK with Modelur's core engine and that something is wrong with the UI.

So I have another idea: which version of Internet Explorer is installed on your system? In order to run Modelur, it should be at least v10 or later. If you have any version below that, please try updating - I'm pretty sure this will fix the problem.

As for the license key - once Modelur UI will be properly initialized, you'll be presented with an activation window in which you will insert the license key we have sent you. After that Modelur will create a license for you.

Best,
Jernej

Hi Rainshanghai,

let me provide some further details about what Nejc is suggesting as a possible solution...

Windows 7 (32- and 64-bit version) come with Internet Explorer version 8 included with the default installation (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_Explorer_versions). Regardless of what you install and use later as your main browser, SketchUp relies specifically on the Internet Explorer.

In order for Modelur to run successfully, it needs Internet Explorer version 10 or newer and if you didn't update the default installation, the (too) old version 8 still lingers there, preventing Modelur for initializing properly.

What baffles most people in this respect is that sometimes Internet Explorer doesn't even appear on the list of installed programs at all or users at some point chose manually to uninstall it, selecting as default some other browser. Regardless of the situation, Microsoft decided that Internet Explorer should always stay installed on Windows and is in some cases just "hidden from the user's everyday view".

To sum up the proposed solution - you have to make sure you have Internet Explorer 10 or newer installed on your computer, either by (re)installing it or by updating it to the latest version.

Kind regards,
Ziga

As a convenience I am posting the link to Micosoft site, from where you should be able to download Internet Explorer 11:
