We discussed about interpreting regression coefficients in our reading group session.
The book we are currently reading - Active Statistics - lays focus on developing a precise language to interpret regressions.
Here is an example regression:
earnings = -26000 + 600*height + 10000*male
How would you interpret this equation?
Here is the precise language as suggested by Andrew Gelman:
1. The average difference in earnings, for people of same height, is 10000 for change in gender.
2. The average difference in earnings, for people of same gender, is 600 for unit change in height.
We cannot interpret that height or gender caused additional earnings solely based on that regression equation.
