Hi,
I am trying to install Modelsim_SE on Ubuntu Gutsy .
I previously tried to use Modelsim_SE with wine but it didn't
work, so I skipped back towards linux . At that time, I had downloaded
a license, student_license.dat .

I followed a tutorial downloaded with Modelsim_SE and I get stuck with
the license .
I have set the PATH correctly.
It is said that I should edit the license.dat, whose original name is
student_license.dat, and change the server name to the name of my
machine .
I edited the file, but it's only one line long, only containing number
and there's no line containing a reference
or a keyword about a machine name .

I suppose, this license.dat isn't suitable for linux .
Does someone knows where I can get one ?
Thanks a lot,
Cédric

Hello and first thanks for your help :)

Here it is :

Unable to find the license file. It appears that your license file
environment variable (e.g., LM_LICENSE_FILE) is not set correctly.
Unable to checkout a license. Vsim is closing.
** Fatal: Invalid license environment. Application closing.

Actually I have a doubt, is Modelsim_SE free or or is it only
Modelsim_PE Student Edition .
I thought Modelsim_SE stood for Student Edition,
Am I right ?

Here is the content of student_license.dat that I renamed license.dat:

2f6eefa6313149698b623683b553f161

Thanks for your help,
Cédric

Modelsim_SE is not free. Modelsim_PE is free and you can use your license for only it. In linux (or windows) you should set an environment variable called LM_LICENSE_FILE to point to the place your license.
I assume that your file is placed in /home/test/license.dat
Edit this file: ~/.profile or ~/.bashrc and put these lines in it:

LM_LICENSE_FILE=/home/test/license.dat
export $LM_LICENSE_FILE

Then reopen your console or simply run ". ~/.bashrc" or ". ~/.profile" (without double quotes) After that, run your Modelsim_PE.

ModelSim PE Student Edition is a sub-set of ModelSim PE and is PC
Windows only
product. It will not work on any kind of Linux platform.

When you download and install the PE Student Edition the license file
you get will
only work with that version of the installation. If you re-install
you will have to request
a new license file.
