Are there any known issues with running ModelSim PE Student Edition
(6.5) on Windows Vista using a normal user (non-admin) account? I'm
having the same license issue that several of the others on this forum
have had. I've tried a clean download/install/request license/copy to
root modelsim diretory multiple times. The license is in the correct
place, but ModelSim gives the following error when I try to start a
simulation:

# ** FATAL ERROR: ModelSim PE Student Edition licensing failure due to
one or more problems with the license key such as:
# - it is not found
# - it has expired
# - it is not for this user
# - it is not for this computer
# - it is not for this version of ModelSim PE Student Edition.
#
# Please go to http://www.model.com and download an updated copy of
the ModelSim PE Student Edition.
# Error loading design

ModelSim runs fine if I start it from an administrator login account,
but I'd rather not do that...

Cheers,

Will

Yes I face the same issue. Apparently, I installed as the
administrator and the licence request was made as administrator. So
only administrator can use it.

Uninstall and reinstall as "User" not "Administrator"
You will have to request another license at the end of the
installation.

Vista does not let installation as user. It always asks for elevation.
What do I do?

I did like this:

1) I changed the privilege of my account: user->administrator

2) I installed and "licensed" the software

3) I changed the privilege again: administrator->user

A bit laborious but it seems to work
