I am trying to learn Verilog and I have been using ModelSim for the
first time. I downloaded the Modelsim Student Edition installation exe
file from the homepage. I installed it and then stored the
student_license.dat file (it was sent to my by email) in the top level
installation directory for ModelSim (D drive). The win32pe_edu folder
is actually a sub-folder in D drive. Therefore, I hope that I put the
license file in the current place.

Now I am trying to simulate the counter verilog code of the ModelSim
tutorial. I can compile the counter.v and tcounter.v files. However,
when I try to do the next step, when I input the following command:

vopt +acc test_counter -o testcounter_opt

ModelSim says invalid command name "vopt". Snce the optimized code was
not generated, I could not follow the next commands, either.

The tutorial steps are supposed to work. I am not sure if I put the
student_license.dat file in the wrong place! Any suggestion will be
really appreciated.

Thanks,

Nazmul

It sounds like you got your hands on a ModelSim SE or a Questa tutorial because vopt is not supported in ModelSim PE or ModelSim PE Student Edition.
