I just installed modelsim-pe_student_edition 6.3c. I was trying to do
simulation of a project I created in xilinx ISE, but the simulator was
unable to find the xilinxcorelib. I was using ModelSim XE before which
had precompiled xilinxcorelib library. But now when I switched to
ModelSim PE Student Edition I couldn't get my simulation to work since
it couldn't find the library. Does anyone know where to find the
library for ModelSim PE Student Edition?

Thanks!

Running compxlib from "command prompt" (or something similar) should
work.
After running compxlib you have to add lines like the following into
[Library]
section of modelsim.ini .

UNISIMS_VER = C:\Xilinx92i\verilog\mti_pe\unisims_ver
SIMPRIMS_VER = C:\Xilinx92i\verilog\mti_pe\simprims_ver
XILINXCORELIB_VER = C:\Xilinx92i\verilog\mti_pe\XilinxCoreLib_ver
UNISIM = C:\Xilinx92i\vhdl\mti_pe\unisim
SIMPRIM = C:\Xilinx92i\vhdl\mti_pe\simprim
XILINXCORELIB = C:\Xilinx92i\vhdl\mti_pe\XilinxCoreLib

cheers,

Thanks for yor quick reply. I just tried to run compxlib from the
command line. After guiding me through a few steps and then starting
to compile the library, it finished by saying "Install Complete".
Since there is no Finish button to close the window, I just clicked
Cancel. After that the program froze. I have Xilinx9.1i. When I
checked the folder, I couldn't find C:\Xilinx9.1i\vhdl\mti_pe
Instead there is an empty folder C:\Xilinx9.1i\vhdl\mti_se
so I couldn't proceed in updating the modelsim.ini either. Any help
with this will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi,

You do not need to edit any ini file to make this work. Please look at
the dev Sys Ref Guide for compxlib and it will tell you what you need
to do. If you are using 9.1i, all you need to do is to go to the
project directory if outside of Proj Nav and type compxlib. This will
open up a GUI for you and step you through the process. Once it is
done and there are no errors, then you click on finish and you can
open up Modelsim PE from the same location. Compxlib will map the
libraries automatically for you.

If you are running from inside Project Navigator, then click on the
device like you are going to change it and now in the process list,
you will see a compile libraries option. If you double click on this,
it will compile the libraries for you.

Compxlib also has the ability to just map the libraries. I would
recommend reading the compxlib chapter in the Dev Sys Ref Guide and it
will explain all this you in more detail.

Thanks

Hi Duth,

Finally I managed to get it to work. But because I couldn't find the
device libraries for the particlular version of Modelsim PE student
edition 6.3c, I just used library files from Modelsim XE 6.2c. It
seems to work fine for a project I was working on.

Thanks!
