This looks like a great idea -- but where is all the chatter?

It's may 5th across the pond, and I just discovered this G-Group.

I'm brand new to multi hull modeling and desire to scratch build.

Can you point me to design recommendations?

Hi Phil,

I thought this would be a good idea to set up, but as with all things it's only any use if people use it! Over in the UK we have a few designs that all seem competitive. Mike Dann at Bluefish produces Ghost Train mouldings along with his own catamaran designs. I've got the Shinobi design which I am currently retooling to produce more of - all of these have won races at the Gosport series.
As for homebuilding, Mike does a flat pack trimaran design with the intention of building from ply which is a great starter boat - You can get him on m.d...@talk21.com.

Hope this helps!

Cheers

Whell that's such a shame that the newsgroup didn't catch on!

It could be an enormous help  to those of us new to the hobby.

I have some questions.regarding hydrofoils:
1) Are most modelers building their own?
2) Are there secrets to making the airfoil uniform?
3) Can you suggest a foil cord length for a mini40 design?
4) How do you reinforce the T joint on the rudder foil.

I would be happy to post these questions to the maillist group if you thing it is worthwhile to "prime the pump"

Hi Phil,

Most people are making their own foils. Balsa sheathed with carbon is probably the easiest way. I sandwich two balsa planks with a layer of carbon down the middle to start with as this gives a hard centreline to follow

I'm producing mine from milled aluminium moulds and while expensive is really the only way to produce them with any meaningful accuracy and these things get fussy at this scale if you are taking it seriously!

Chords are pretty small, starting at 5cm and tapering down towards the tip.

My T foils are just epoxied on with a radiused fillet, although you have to be careful handling them out of the water.

All replies are going up on the group anyway!

Cheers

Mike
