I am no stranger to building 3D models, I do it for a living.

But I normally build from plans which have all the relevant dimensions
included.

Can someone give me a step by step guide on how to find the correct
height for buildings?
I want to start modelling Glasgow buildings in my spare time and until
I can work out the heights I can't get started.

Cheers for any advice

Hi andy.

Unfortunately I don't thik what you are looking for exists. It's a
best guess from the photos and comparing with other models. Thinking
about it tho we should probably use a single building as a refrence.
One we do know the height of.

I found this guide online, on the google 3D basecam site.

Hello Andy, here are some resources but these only tell the height for
Glasgow's tallest buildings.

http://www.emporis.com/en/wm/ci/bu/?id=100640
http://www.skyscrapernews.com/bdbsearch.php?city=Glasgow&so=roofheight&to=DESC

The City Council made a model which is fairly average (to be
generous). It cost over £400,000 so was a complete disaster form a
financial perspective. Only buildings south of George Street are
visible. It can be downloaded here -
http://www.glasgow.gov.uk/en/Business/Planning_Development/Heritage_design/viewtheurbanmodel.htm

Once opened go to measurements then vertical distances and you'll get
reasonably accurate measurements of buildings. It must be noted that
the Google Earth terrain is not 100% accurate (the clyde flows up the
way when near the Kingston Bridge). Having the correct height from one
side doesnt mean it will be accurate from all sides. I hope this
helps. I look forward to seeing your results.

£400,000!! I want my tax back! lol. What a waste of money.

I saw I guy on queen street the other day taking photos of all the
buildings on the street. Could have been another sketch up addict!! I
should have asked him what they were for. Ah well.
