RC1 came out almost a year ago, so I was wondering if there Is there any update as to when MG 3.2 might be ready for prime time?

Hi Dean,

Thanks for your email. We've been a bit delayed on releasing the Gold release of 3.2.

The outstanding issues aren't related to code at all, but documentation. the 3.2 release contains a ton of new features and should possibly have been called a 4.0 release due to the amount of changes to the framework. We want to make sure all of those changes and features are reasonably documented and this is where we've fallen short.

I've been running the 3.2 RC1 release in production on ChallengeWave.com for over a year now and have yet to find any substantial issues. So if you want to run it, feel free.

From time to time we add to parts of the documentation and we could use more help on it. Are you, by chance, interested in helping out with the remaining documentation areas?

Hi Dan,

Thanks for the update. It's good to know that you have been running it in production without issues. I haven't looked too much into the new features, but would certainly be willing to help with the documentation wherever I can. I've been using MG for the last few years and have a couple of fairly large projects running off of it, so I have a pretty good idea as to how it works. If you want to let me know what features that you need documented, I can start to dig deeper into them.

Thanks Dean for the offer. Maybe you can review some of the early documentation we have and help us find out the spots that may cause others trouble.

Will ping you off list when we have something,.

To follow-up on this, perhaps it would be better to release the updated code base and dub it a 4.0 as you suggested and then simply stub out all the new features and sections for documentation that are needed. My take is that if we just outline these at a high-level and then as the community for support it's more likely to get completed. Otherwise, if you were to visit the website now it appears that it's a stalled project with that last revision and blog post almost a year old. For a model on how to do this, I have really liked the approach that  http://refinerycms.com/ has taken. They pull in the documentation directly from github, which allows for two benefits - easy to accept new documentation from the community and builds the documentation into the application (ex:  http://refinerycms.com/guides/contributing-to-refinery and  https://github.com/resolve/refinerycms/blob/2-0-stable/doc/guides/8%20-%20Contributing/2%20-%20Writing%20a%20guide%20for%20this%20website.textile ). Perhaps we can also use this launch as an opportunity to shift the core code base to github and then use this model for documentation?

Cheers,
Roy

You might have hit on a good idea Roy, maybe we release the 3.2 with the updated core and the rest of the documented features, and leave the undocumented features unannounced.

That way, we could get the code out there. I, along with others, have been using the 3.2 code in production for quite a while and it's been very solid.

Would anyone else like to comment on the pros/cons of releasing the code as is, with undocumented features that will be documented at a later time? Possibly in a new release?

Sounds like a fair plan to me. I can't see any negatives there. I mean, the core, already-documented functionality/feature set hasn't changed (unless upgrading from 2.x). I say go for it. :-)

I like this idea as well. It gets what we have documented out there in an official capacity and we can more easily get input from the community on documentation and possibly even code fixes.

It would be great to get some sense of how many folks would be willing to pitch in and help translate one or more parts of the current wiki documentation to the new system.

One idea might be to come up with a 'todo' list. Maybe stub out the
parts that are missing - then see if people can fill in the blanks.

The Ubuntu crew is really getting good at outlining different ways to
pitch in and help...

http://fridge.ubuntu.com/2012/03/08/ubuntu-12-04-development-update-17/

* They have 'bite size bugs' which are simple things people can tackle
with little experience...
* They have 'fix-it-fridays' where they try to organize groups to help
out and provide mentors to help out
* They have a nice "Things which need to get done" list...
