Is anybody still subscribed to the old list? It looks as if we have broken the mighty fist of the authoritarian oppressors! :-)

I got this message a few days ago:

Friends:

After discussion with the other list managers, we've decided to end
our policy of asking that list members not "top post" their replies.
That's the default behavior of most email clients, and just reminding
people of our recommendation to "bottom post" or interleave your
replies has become more trouble than its worth. From this point
forward, top posting is no longer an issue.

Hahaha :D

Freedom, Liberty, Prosperity and Peace* will always prevail...

I'm not subscribed anymore though...

Hi, Paul:

Thanks. :-)

I believe the list will come in handy soon. I'll do some posts there.

Heh, this tickles me. Although it came a bit too late, it's nice to see someone responding to the will of the people. However, I don't understand why there needs to be list managers in the first place.. (as long as there is an ignore command, all is well!)

The answer to your question...

Is answered by this quote...

Some things truly are "off topic"

Why would you use that list rather than this one?
I'm still banned from the old list...

It's really more apathy. I just have not bothered to unsubscribe. That post I forwarded was the only thing to come through since "The Exodus".

Hi, Dan:

I'm experiencing problems getting onto the new list, as the server has
been busy most of today.

Just tried it again, no connection.

This thread is on the new list, so some part of it is working.
Both groups are hosted by google, so I've no idea why one would work
when the other didn't.
What problem are you seeing?

I have noticed that gmail has been behaving "oddly" the last couple of
days, I wonder if its related?

Hi, Dan. Haven't been able to log on to the forum lately. Just tried again. Get this message: Safari can’t open the page.

Safari can’t open the page “http://modbookgallery.com/forums/” because the server unexpectedly dropped the connection, which sometimes occurs when the server is busy. You might be able to open the page later.

I would definitely try again, with Firefox.

Very odd... I've been logged in fairly steadily off and on since I
opened the forums... haven't run into a problem with Safari or
Firefox... can you get on now Bill? Was the problem temporary? I'm
hosting with GoDaddy, so maybe they were doing maintenance or
something...

Amy, it's hit or miss - mostly miss - whenever I try to access the
ModBook Forum. Happens any time of day or night.

Choice of browser makes no difference. Pages fail whether I'm using
Firefox, Safari or DEVONagent. Firewall settings make no difference.
I've got hundreds of sites bookmarked. and this is the only one that
routinely fails.

My guess is that the problem has to do with the latency of my
satellite broadband connection. GoDaddy resets the connection very
quickly, so perhaps it's a timing issue triggered by the high latency
of my satellite Internet connection.

Hi Bill,

Your satellite connection is the only thing I can think of... I
haven't heard of other people having problems, though I do get the
error myself sometimes, a simple refresh resolves it right away, and
it never persists.... I look at the cache settings of the forum
software and see if that has anything to do with it.
Do you have the same problems with the whole site or JUST the forums?

I just changed a setting in my forum configuration, so let me know if
you have better luck. I don't know if it'll cause problems for anyone
else, so we'll have to test and see...

Hm... if it's the gallery too, I'm not sure what the issue is...

I'll look around and see what I can find... sorry about that!

(ps. I didn't mean your cache... meant the server cache... but that's
for trying that anyway)

Amy, you might check with GoDaddy about whether there could be a
timing problem (latency) for a satellite broadband connection.

I get an immediate "Connection Reset" message under Firefox, and "No
Internet Connection" message under Safari or DEVONagent. So the
GoDaddy server is immediately dropping my connection. However, I can
connect with any other URL (hundreds bookmarked) without difficulty.
