how can i check any cache stats? how can i check if particular URI is
served through a cache or not?

to mod_...@googlegroups.com
load "mod_status" in server.modules settings
and add
status.statistics-url = "/modcache_status"
to lighttpd.conf, then visit http://ip/modcache_status to check modcache status
and add
status.statistics-url = "/modcache_status"
