The version of UNIX is known as IN/ix** and is from
INTERACTIVE Systems in Santa Monica, CA. This is a pedestal
mount box, not a desk top. 'C' and a development set is
included as is [nt]roff. Additionally there are many UCB
enhancements. We have been soaking a unit for the past
6 weeks and it works flawlessly. Benchmarking data (Byte
benchmarks) are available upon request, I ran them myself
and was quite impressed!
Software that has been ported includes:
o LEX - word processing (and SOFTYPE for
phototypesetting)
o Informix - database
o Unify - database
o RealWorld Accounting Software
o A retail package that supports scanners and includes
basic accounting
o A garment industry package
o PASCAL
o RM COBOL
o FORTRAN
o SCI BASIC (Microsoft compatible)
o The various INstuff from INTERACTIVE
Hardware Options include:
o Larger disk drives
o Additional disk drives
o 80286 + 80386 versions of this system (using multibus)
are available, but cost considerably more.
o 10, 20 or 40MB Irwin tape cartridge
The reason we need your help, is, before I commit to the
volume this manufacturer insists on, to offer the above
price, I have to be fairly certain that we could move the
product. If you are looking for a stable (this box has been
around for 2 years), low cost, UNIX environment, this might
be what you need. Please send mail to:
~!ihnp4!ilmss!hostage if you are interested. Please give me
some idea of how serious you are! Or give us a call at
1800-548-9618 (natl), 1800-323-6453 (Ill), or 312/898-2228 -
ask for George, Greg, Phil, or Dan.
