Computer Literacy and Visual Languages

On the subject of 'computer literacy' and language vs. icons I have
one comment; As any of you that have used the Apple Macintosh should
have realised, language exists in major part to talk about things that
you *can't* point at. If you dont have command of a language then you
are going to be handicaped into using what you can point at in some
way.

This is a problem I see again and again in computer circles. What is it
that most of us have missed out on that we don't get this point?
