I can't print anything using Firmware 0.13. It begins to calibrate, then the plate stops moving and there is still a lot of mechanical noise. Eventually the fans stop on their own and it returns to idle mode.

Firmware .12 was working great, shouldn't have upgraded.
Anyone else having this issue? Can't believe New Matter is still not publishing release notes with updates.

Todd:

We do have a known bug in 0.13.0 that causes the calibration to continue looping under certain conditions when the first XY homing attempt fails.  While it did not surface in fairly extensive pre-release testing, we have seen it on two printers since then.  0.13.1 is soon to come and fixes the bug.

A few more details would help me/New Matter better understand your observation:
  1. Is this failure to calibrate repeatable? (I'm inferring this from "I can't print anything", but it's not entirely clear if this was an initial attempt or many)
  2. Are you starting with the build tray in a particular location?  We have learned that starting with the build tray in a corner is somewhat more likely to fail the current XY homing than starting with the tray at left-center (left side, centered fore-aft).  This is despite the existence of instructions showing the placement of the tray in a corner before homing.
If it is consistently failing, and with the tray starting at left-center, providing a more-detailed summary of the moves* to failure or a video (contact me off-list for an upload link) will greatly help us nail this down.

* for example:  "moves right, moves left to the center of the left-right motion, moves back, chatters for 30 seconds, stops moving and 10 minutes later the fan turns off."

Thanks,

Hi Derek,

Thanks for the quick reply! I apologize for the lack of information in my original ticket.

Here are two videos of the calibration failing. The build plate does not move, although I can hear some faint motor sounds.

Please let me know if I should send the videos another way, or if there is any additional information you would like me to provide to help in the development of the next firmware. I have also attached one of the G Code files from Cura using the supplied New Matter Machine Profile that I was attempting to print in the first video.

Thank you,
Todd Kaiser

I also just upgraded to fw 0.13 and can't print via the USB tool.  As soon as I press the button to start printing, the button flashes absurdly fast (10x per second?).  It says it is calibrating the build plate but the build plate does not move, there is no noise (fan or otherwise).  It just sits there.

I've tried 3 times through the USB tool.  I have not tried through the store.

  • Marc:
Please contact New Matter Support, via live chat or phone (1-866-949-8722 (Monday-Friday, 9AM - 6PM Pacific), support.newmatter.com, or email (he...@newmatter.com).  They have a remote diagnostic tool that can help sort things out.

If the hot end is failing/failed and/or if there is a stalled/jammed axis (like the carriage being caught at the top), this could easily explain what I think you are describing.  It could also be an issue during the firmware flashing, but that is unlikely.

New FW (0.14.0) with the fix for this homing behavior is now starting to go live.  It is also attached.

Finally, firmware releases are now staged to our users.  For example, after internal testing is satisfactory, we push the firmware (and the notifications thereof) to a subset of the external users.  If you want to be added to the first group of external users to receive the updates, please let me know off-list/privately with the email address you use for your New Matter account.  [there will be another message about this from the main discussion level]
