What does PageSpeed Module do?

I am new to the back end side of Web Design and would like to know what it is that the PageSpeed Module does and who to install it correctly, are there detailed instructions on how to correctly install and configure PageSpeed Module?

https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/module/ is a good place to start; it includes links to documentation, binary downloads, etc.

you can also check out http://modpagespeed.com which has demos.
