I installed mod_pagespeed last year and haven't paid it much attention after configuring it. But I recently noticed a TON of errors in my error_log:
[Mon Feb 21 20:17:10.086777 2022] [pagespeed:info] [pid 23376:tid 47623094380288] [mod_pagespeed 1.13.35.2-0 @23376] No permission to rewrite '
https://www.mydomain.com/whatever.js'
I'm getting this on JPGs, PNGs, CSS, JS, Adsense, Google Tag Manager... seriously, 75,712 of them in 10 minutes!
The only changes I've made to 510_pagespeed.conf are:
## loading CSS out of order, causing awkward page loads
## this didn't work
# ModPagespeedEnableFilters move_css_to_head
## so disallow entirely
ModPagespeedDisallow "*includes/styles*.css*"
## Classifieds thumbnails aren't loading properly, exclude the directory
ModPagespeedDisallow "*classifieds*thumbs/*"
## All PNGs are broken
ModPagespeedDisallow "*.png*"
That's right above </IfModule>.
I found several references to people having this same error over the years, but none of the solutions given applied to me.
Any suggestions on how I might track down the source of the problem?
