An example of using a marketplace to sell algorithms: https://algorithmia.com/

A Boston Globe article (which includes a quote from our own Steve Homer):
http://www.bostonglobe.com/ideas/2015/03/21/like-airbnb-but-for-algorithms/HRx2sUg9fWQMvWZOsQ7xqL/story.html

Interestingly, this has many marketplace properties that are interesting in the MOC context:
1) Consumers of algorithms are changed based on royalties and how many cycles are consumed on their behalf
2) Algorithms can be sandboxed and don't have Internet access (yet), which keeps consumers' data separated from the algorithm author. This is possible because the algorithm runs on algorithma's servers
3) Algorithms can call other algorithms, passing the cost along to the consumer
