It is possible to bootstrap a personal compute cluster on Amazon Web Services within minutes, but really what does that mean? Which services should you use, and what are the implications of those services on your how you develop algorithms and data analysis pipelines? In this talk, we'll cover a few of the essential services for scientific computing on AWS, as well as discuss some practical examples of using AWS for HPC workloads.
Angel Pizarro is a Technical Business Development Manager on the Scientific and Research Computing team at Amazon Web Services. He is focused on accelerating genomic scientific computing by utilizing large-scale cloud architectures. Prior to joining AWS, he spent 15 years at University of Pennsylvania practicing bioinformatics, both from a research and development standpoint, and as a operations and service provider of computational resources for biomedical research scientists.
