That is a great overview how iPads can be used in education and if I wouldn't have bought myself an iPad today this would have convienced me to buy one tomorrow ;-)

I am sure that I will have fun with my iPad. I waited for so long, always pondered about if I really need one if it is worth the money or if I should spend it better otherwise. But how can I authentically speak about mobile learning if I don't own a mobile device. Sure a laptop can be considered as mobile as well, but a tablet or smartphone is something different :-)

I already have a long list of apps I heard about that I want to try out, and lots of new blog posts to write ;-)

I know how you feel Sylvia!  I participated in a research project looking at iPads for personal learning and for teaching and absolutely loved spending time having fun with it and justifying it to myself as 'work' !
;-))

It made subtle differences to my own practice and made me very excited about possible teaching applications, but I must admit that being able to implement those sorts of innovative ideas into my teaching permanently does not look likely.  Whilst we had a pool of iPads to use with students in face to face settings [yes!  I know that sounds counter-intuitive for a mobile tool] once I'd completed my usage case part of the research, the pool was summonsed back to the university stock room.  It now looks unlikely that these will be part of any design in the immediate future.

I'd love to follow your blog about your experiences as you go along, could you share your blog address here?
Kind regards
Paige

Thanks for the great list.

We will start our first iPad-student-group in January. The list comes just in time to give some direction for the planning :-)

I hoe we will be able to practice "earn as you learn" with the students, so that they can keep the ipads an the end of the project.

One of the main challenges I still experience is to not only "consume" but also "create" on the iPad. If you think of "curating" as a form of "creating" than  I create a lot on the ipad :-) But for "real" creation I still find a laptop ( with  mouse, keyboard, harddrive ...) more comfortable. Maybe I should reflect on what I see as a "good" artefact of learning. As a university lecturer "text on paper" is familiar as a learning artefact. I should think of other possibilities ...

Best wishes,
Lutz
