Hi everyone,

I've done a couple of blog posts relating to this weeks theme.

The first was specific to my iPad and how I use it: http://rjh.goingeast.ca/2012/09/12/how-i-use-my-ipad/

The second was listing my various mobile devices and describing (at least a little) how I use them: http://rjh.goingeast.ca/2012/09/15/my-mobile-device-list/

I'll try to do a post or two on my mobile learning author toolset - what I use to create mobile friendly content (or at least iPad friendly content).

Cheers,
Rebecca

I've already posted inforun i copy here

i use iphone and ipad
I thought I woud never buy it (I mean the IPad) and now I cannot live without
I tunes is boring but there are a lot of apps very useful
With ipad I can manage gmail wordpress, facebook ,maps, pinterest, twitter,a lot of ebook (i tried something in epub3 in ibooks...!!!) and naturaly google
I'm reading in english (ebook -ibook and kindel for ipad in sinc with audiobook) and i can find definition in wikipedia or google or verify pronounce with other apps
I'm also fond of drawing apps (free and very friendly... they have levels and a lot of stuff i love)
Iphone is better for photo and quick searches

But the most important is MAPS
I have no sense of direction and get lost often
since I have the iphone I'm geolocated I see where I'm , where I'm going and I do not feel so lost (is something that mortifies me - anyone with the same problem?) So i think that a mlearning that interact with my position is very very useful

I was asked the other day about what iPad accessories I have to support teaching with my iPad. It occured to me that I have a few - a stylus and a VGA cable that I hate - but more interestingly, the iPad accessory I purchases specifically so that I could display wirelessly from my iPad is my MacBook Air! I thought it was rather funny that my laptop is actually an accessory for my iPad rather than the other way around - but alas, it is true. The laptop with VGA cable, running an ad hoc network, allows me to present from my iPad in any classroom or conference center.

Just thought I'd share that amusing idea!

Cheers,
Rebecca

Great accessory :-D

We used a wireless router for mobile devices in Peru (and now in other places too, but Peru was the first time). To create a class environment where people could exchange big size content, so they did not have to download it via telecom operators or mobile internet. Will briefly touch this during mHealth mobile projects on thursday next week.

Cheers,
Rebecca

Actually, this situation (tablet without the mobile internet) creates research limitation. İ have a research on higher education student and we will develop an app. But we will not explore whereever and whenever they use it exactly. Because they only use it with wifi. There ismt Wifi everwhere.
iOtherwise, if we will give them tablet with mobile internet, we will have to pay huge cost. Mobile internet is expensive in Turkey for research and gsm operators do not support much to mobile learning projects.

All the best
Nilgun

I originally tried the airport express but found that I still needed the VGA Connector. I tried with Apple TV but again had the VGA problem. The solution without the laptop involved too many pieces with too many things that could go wrong. It become much simpler to just make the laptop part of the solution.

Hallo Rebecca,

thanks for sharing. As a new owner of an iPad, I welcome every information regarding useful apps and other useful features. iAnnote definitely sounds like a good app and I love in particular the stamp feature. It is indeed amazing how many students forget to add their name on an assignment ;-)

Hi Nilgun

The connection limitations are a huge problem for this, aren't they?  Most of what is designed now is designed in highly connected cities, who simply can't imagine the realities of not having a wifi connection almost constantly.  I was part of a research project last year, and we used mi-fi devices with very mixed success when working with a group of students face 2 face in a classroom, but my colleagues had no problems at all doing a project on a 'field trip' :-))  So mobile may mean 'across contexts', but we can't lose sight of the fact that the context may restrict aspects of the mobility.

I also tried using mobile phones as wifi hotspots to connect the ipad, but found in most instaces this was too slow and the websites would 'time out'.  Is this an option for your students, perhaps?

Kind regards
Paige
PS. would love to hear how your project progresses.
