Our practice, Advanced Feet and Ankle Care, treats heel pain or plantar fasciitis. The symptoms can include burning, numbness, and pain in the morning. They may also increase by the afternoon. Pain is caused by a tightening of the plantar fascia, which is located at the bottom of your foot. The plantar fascia supports the arch—the ligament contracts when you rest. The ligament may pull and tear as you begin to walk. This can cause pain. Trauma, excessive exertion, poorly fitting shoes, or poor foot alignment can all cause heel pain.
The initial treatment for heel pain (plantar fasciitis) is conservative:
SHOCK THERAPY
ANTI-INFLAMMATORY MEDICINES
PLANTAR FASCIA - EXERCISE
CORTISONE INJECTIONS
FUNCTIONAL ORTHOSES
We recommend that you use proper foot support. Foot support aims to stop the ligaments from tearing and thereby address the root cause of the issue. For the best foot support, we often prescribe customized orthotics. Custom Orthotics is a type of insert that fits into your shoes and is custom-moulded to fit your foot. They correct faulty foot alignments by bringing your foot to a more proper position. Most of our patients have favourable outcomes with conservative treatment. Patients who require further treatment may need surgery.
Don't let heel pain become chronic. Make an appointment today with Advanced Feet and Ankle Care, and we will get you back to doing the things you love.
ANKLE SPRAINAnkle sprains can be a widespread injury. The injuries can range from minor joint damage, causing swelling, pain and instabilities, to severe damage, such as broken bones, torn ligaments and bruised cartilage. Rest, ice, compression, and anti-inflammatories are all part of the immediate treatment.
Untreated ankle sprains can cause prolonged symptoms in up to 80% of cases. They can include chronic ankle pain or instability, increasing the risk of repetitive injuries and arthritic change later in life.
Advanced Feet and Ankle Care use the latest technology to determine whether there is a broken bone, dislocated joint or torn ligaments. Early evaluation and aggressive treatment are the best ways to prevent chronic pain, instabilities and arthritis.
Jason Grossman, our Ankle Specialist at Advanced Feet and Ankle Care, will evaluate your ankle condition immediately.
TENDON INJURYAchilles tendinitis causes pain in the heel area at the back part of the leg. The Achilles tendon can become inflamed if it is repeatedly abused. This condition is prevalent in athletes and people of middle age who actively participate in sports.
The Achilles tendon connects the calf muscle at the backside of your lower leg with the heel bone. The Achilles tendon allows you to point your toes towards the floor and extend your foot. It is the longest, thickest and strongest tendon in the body.
TREATMENT AND MANAGERYIn general, tendons like the Achilles tendon heal slowly or not entirely. Sometimes, a lifestyle change may be required to prevent recurrences of Achilles tendinitis. Achilles tendinitis treatment aims to reduce swelling and relieve pain.
The symptoms include:
RESTRAINING THE LEG
COLD COMPRESSION THERAPEut
SHOCK THERAPY
Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory MEDICATION
PHYSICAL THERAPEUTIC
Heel Lift
USING A BRACE TO KEEP THE TENDON AND HEEL STILL
Surgery may need to be performed if symptoms don't improve. Consult Dr Consult Dr.

Foot & Ankle FracturesFracture is another name for a broken bone. A broken bone is often thought to be worse than a break. In truth, they are both the same. There are different types of breaks or fractures. The fragments of a broken bone may be in an unnatural position. This is called a displaced break.
In the opposite case, it is called a nondisplaced fracture if both are aligned well. A hairline fracture is when you can barely make out the broken bone on an X-ray. If a fragment of a broken bone has punctured skin, it is called an open fracture or compound fracture. Open fractures are prone to infection and require immediate surgical treatment.
Broken bones are often splinted at first to prevent further injury to soft tissues and bone movement. The fracture may need to be set if it is displaced. Setting certain fractures can be difficult. Surgery is indicated in these fractures. The best chance for healing is to have the fractures surgically repaired.
Even though it may sound very frightening, most fractures can still be treated in a cast and without a trip to the OR. This treatment is effective for simple toe fractures. Yes, we do cast toes. Most people don't think of plaster or fibreglass. We use mesh tape to hold the toe in position.
Please get in touch with Advanced Feet and Ankle Care if you or someone you care about has suffered an injury to their foot or ankle. We will do our best to see you as soon as possible.
