Though it's a mailing list for mobileGTD on symbian, and the app has been in a
stop condition, but I think we can talk about implement GTD on mobile/cell
phones, so why not try to share your GTD experiments with your cell phone?

I will buy a second hand palm650 and be being so excited for it :)

Everybody up now!

Hi all!

Before MobileGTD I tried using the task list in the calendar as ToDo List.
The problem with that was, that only 1 task gets displayed in the calender view in standby.
As soon as I have more than 1 task, they get collapsed into a
"You have 2 tasks" field, which is not very useful and the whole process was not GTD.
Then I tried managing everything in one text-file. Not very clear, bad overview.
Then I tried a Java app which could be used for hierarchical working with data.
I think it was called Odysseus or something like that...
Then I started MobileGTD and have not used anything else since that.
I think, one thing that could possibly work is using one of the GTD tools
based on TiddlyWiki (d3,GTD TiddlyWiki, Monkey GTD), but have never tried it.

What's your experience?

Best regards
  Martin

Hi All!

Thanks Wu Yue for starting the roll. :)

I like org-mode in desktop emacs, it manages things well for my work and some of my personal stuffs. But I prefer the phone to contain the things that I do on the run. And with the phone I do not have to worry about syncing from my work to my home pc.

My first complaint of the s60 calendar is the lack of categories/contexts. Well, I have "fixed" it with s60done.

My second complaint is same as one of Martin's, that tasks are displayed as "You have 2 tasks", my ideal display will be something like:
1/36 Pay Loan
Where 1=the current number of todo list display
36 = total number of todo in the system
        "Pay Loan" = the todo

Or upon configuring, it can display the top 3 (sorted by priorities or ordering), with a indication of how many total.

I have been thinking a lot about how to "hack" the calendar so it can display the things that I want to see in the menu screen so I do not need to run s60done all the time to check. Here are some ways that I can think of:

1. use the TopWindow pys60 api which will allow me to display custom stuffs over the idle screen, maybe covering the area where the appointments (which I still use) and also the todo list appear. Then I can have total control over what to display there.

2. hack the Todo list. If I have 36 todos, I will mark the 35 of them as DONE, leaving only one as "TODO", so it will show up in the home screen. For adding more information, I can edit so that the text of the TODO contains the "1/36" prefix before the text name. This approach might screw up the synchronization, as I know, DONE todos are not synced.

3. hack the Calendar. Since calendar entries show up all the time, put some of the important todo in the Calendar! I am only playing with this idea for the "Tickler" concept in GTD, which is implemented in s60done. The problem with this is, when it reaches tomorrow, the calendar entry will not be shown in the home screen anymore!

Its sad to see iphone, android, and also palm pre not to have something even close to GTD on the idle screen.

Cheers,

On desktop, orgmode alike outline software is useful, but I'm not an emacs
fans, so I created a filetype of orgmode for vim, and happy with it :)
Yes, it's very very useful!

And I have to say symbian is bad for GTD.

David Allen uses palm 650 with Bonsai for his GTD implement on mobile, so
I will get one and look into it :) mobileGTD is good, but I lacks a full
keyboard phone for quickly taking notes with it. And it still has some
annoying bugs or lacks some feature(most of them are reported to the
google code page) shrug :(

I will share my expeience when I get familiar with palm, I've heard that
it's not so easy to master.
