Hey all -

I was given a G1 w/ a T-Mobile SIM that doesn't have a data plan associated with it. Of course the first thing I do is reset the phone to a clean state. I restart the device and i'm asked to register my gmail address. Which I can't because I don't have a data plan and can't connect to wifi.

So.. Google tells me a can root / flash / borrow another sim that has a data plan for registration - a whole host of options. I'd like to get a process down that allows me to reset the phone from time to time to get it to a clean state if needed.

What is my best option to basically "unbrick" this phone short of buying a data plan.

Thanks,
Damon

Damon,

It has been my experience that you only need a SIM with a T-Mobile
Android rate plan on it in order to register your Google account on the
phone. Once you have registered the phone, you can return the Android
SIM to its rightful owner. Almost everything will work properly when
the phone is connected to the internet via WiFi. If you only have a
cellular connection, the majority of the apps will NOT work with
anything other than the Android rate plan.

I am currently using my myTouch with WiFi and have my T-Mobile account
provisioned for my BlackBerries.

I hope this helps.

Sure. I can set you up if you haven't been helped already.

I'm sure you have come across the suggestion of getting an activation code from T-mobile (or buying in ebay one for around $20) and using your ATT sime card to unlock the phone.

NOTE: I've never tried this buying of codes - might be a scam - not sure.
