Below are my thoughts on why you should attend this hackathon:

I realize most of you are waiting to build Windows Store Apps until after there are a sufficient number of devices out there to justify your efforts.  Especially when you consider the existing opportunities with iOS and Android (both Google Play and Amazon).  I can’t say that I blame you.  However, this is a great opportunity to get into the Store early.  Regardless of what any of us believe, the next version of Windows 8 “Blue” will be selling lots of devices later this year.  It does take a little to ramp up with the new Windows 8 design paradigm.  Now is a great time to start, especially considering that the BUILD conference is only a month away (when the details and changes with “Blue” will be released).

Sure there will be other hackathon/learning events sponsored by Microsoft after the BUILD conference, but between now and then you’ll lose 6-8 weeks and find yourself with a swarm of competitors vying for this new market.  You already understand and know the difference that these 6-8 weeks can make in moving to this new platform and staying ahead of the crowds.  Let’s be honest, there is risk here.  But if you can afford to spend the time now it will be time well spent in tilting the odds in your favor.

Obviously I’m registered for this FREE event on June 7thJ  It will be different than the Unleashed events that have been put on in the past, less lecture and more hands-on help.  I’ll be working on my own apps, but I’m happy to help answer any questions and help anyone specifically regarding In-App-Purchase, Azure Mobile Services and app development with Xamarin.  If this is something you need help with or are considering, then feel free to register and show up for as long as makes sense.  I’ll be there the entire day.
