I've seen this before but the thing that I really really still find funny is the part about asking if he will help her set up the Bluetooth. This reminds me of all the times I've gone to the genius bar to have my iPhone replaced because it was defective, only to wait behind someone like this.

and, so what does this tell you about why so many technology products are such dismal failures? ;-)

no, not that people are stupid.

I agree, actually. I'm the first person to say that computers and technology in general aren't user friendly enough yet and that we can do better as programmers and engineers. However, I also believe that once you dive into a technology you kind of take on the burden of learning a bit. Just as I wouldn't expect someone to hand-hold me through setting up a 5.1 surround system, hiding the wires and making it clean and nice in my living room, I would expect someone who buys a bluetooth headset to try reading a manual or going on Google before heading straight to the Genius Bar.

_You_ may, but the success of Geek Squad's home theater installation service (and a long list of similar services) says that most consumers are happy to spend a bit extra or have their retailer choice swayed based on not having to. Remember, it's all about opportunity cost. Most people aren't interested in spending the attention required to make your new gadget work for them. That's why consumer apps are an entirely different field than line of business apps.
