Following quickly on the heels of our Modern Art: The Card Game release
is an update for Reiner Knizia's Kingdoms, which should be available to
you now.

This update incorporates six months or so of new code for our libraries,
which included some speed improvements as I recall and a bunch of other
minutia. Most notably, you'll now hear sound, including a draconic roar
that we put together specifically for this game.

If you have an iPad, you'll also see a set of app icons along the bottom
of the menu screen. When I created these for Modern Art, they just led
to the app store. When I put together the Kingdoms release, I realized
that I could also make them link to our other games, if you have them on
your iDevice. Unfortunately I need to upgrade each individual game for
this to work. But, as I soon as I update High Society (next on my list),
you'll be able to effortlessly jump back and forth between High Society
and Kingdoms!

If you don't already have Kingdoms, you can see the app store info on it
here:

I personally think it's our game with the most depth, and I'm sorry it
hasn't gotten the same attention as our perennial favorite (and a great
game!), Money.

Can you please add online Multiplayer? That is my number one complaint
about Kingdoms. And other Knizia games.. I play Samurai and
Carcassonne constantly with friends.

Thanks,

Jason

Online multiplayer is on our distant-plans list. Sometime after we do
pass-and-play we're going to add GameCenter. I'd like to see it for
2011, but I'm not sure.

This makes me sad and I likely won't purchase any other games that
don't have it. I think this is the number one thing I do with games on
my phone. More then play locally myself, and way more than pass and
play. I never ever use pass and play. I'd be curious to know if you
have any stats on usage of that feature. I know with Carcasonne I
never play locally, only online, Samurai I play both local and online,
but mostly online, Hive and Through the Desert I rarely play, cause
they are local only. Kingdoms I play local cause it's quick and fun,
but I know I'd play it a lot more if it were online enabled. The AI is
kinda boring and predictable. But again, I don't need improvements
there, it's good enough, I'd rather see the effort in online play, I
would already have Money and High Society if they had online
multiplayer.

Perhaps I'm the exception, not the norm, but I know my friends share
the same opinion, which is why they don't have any of those games
either.

Thanks for listening.

I'll add my vote for online multi-player. I never use Pass-and-Play in those games that have it, and don't know anyone who does.

Best, Bill

For what it's worth, I DO use pass n play, and I'm guessing that is
easier to setup than online async play b

More notably, almost all of the work required for pass-and-play
(allowing for setup of games with multiple human players, adjustment of
backend to support scores for more than one human player, polishing of
code to make sure everything in the games works with those multiple
human players, mechanism to change point of view for different players)
is also required for GameCenter. The only effort that I can think of
that won't be replicated is the inclusion of an interstitial screen to
protect hidden information, and that's pretty trivial.

So, we're doing pass-and-play and we're doing it first because its 25%
of the work required for GameCenter.

I am the complete opposite of Jason. New games, expansions, and Improved AI (in that order) are my preferences for developer time. Multiplayer is very low.

I also vote for online multiplayer, but I'd like to add a vote for Pass n Play.  I don't use Pass n Play for all the board game apps that have it, but I do for quite a few and consider it a good feature.

I'm another vote for improved AI and expansions as I don't do multiplayer.

Though I appreciate the votes, I've already got my schedule laid out for
much of the year, and it's going to include both elements. Basically,
with 6 games scheduled to be out, I figured that was worth the effort to
go back and get multiplayer elements into all of our games.

This isn't official enough to put on a web site, but these are my next
priorities. ?s are uncertain.

* German/French editions of Money
* German/French editions of HS?
* Michael Schacht's Web of Power: The Duel / Richelieu
* Pass and Play with WoP:TD, then updated at least to Gold! (which has
no hidden info)
* Mac edition of Money
* Masters Gallery version of MA:TCG?
* Eric Vogel's Armorica
* German/French editions of Kingdoms?
* Kingdoms Lite
* Kingdoms in-app upgrade for new special tiles
* GameCenter

That doesn't include the smaller stuff, like a High Society release with
audio and a Gold! release with some AI tweaks, both in June.

Well then, by all means, stick to your plan and don't let the few (but often annoyingly vocal) multiplayer proponents alter it. :-p

I'll add my voice to the "annoyingly vocal" then. But I want pass-and-play too. So I guess that makes me doubly annoyingly vocal. ;)
