Our newest iEuro, another Knizia, was released over the weekend. It's
Reiner Knizia's Modern Art: The Card Game and can be found here:
http://www.tinyurl.com/rkmodernartcg
This is not the auction variant of the game, but rather the cardplay
game that was also released as Masters Gallery a few years ago. I
personally like this cardplay game a lot more, as I think there's a
simple elegance to the gameplay as you try and ensure that your favorite
artists are the top-rated ones. It was also a better fit for the iPhone,
as the open auctions of the auction game would have been somewhat
troublesome.
(We don't actually have a license for the auction version, though we do
also have a license for the functionally identical Masters Gallery; I'm
considering a release of a Masters Gallery version for those who prefer
classic artwork, though getting the rights to those pieces proved
troublesome when I first tried last year.)
Beyond that, it's got what you'd expect from our games. I think the AIs
are particularly interesting, because they were tuned with something
like a dozen variables each. I'm going to be writing an article on the
topic in the near future, and will link here when I do.

Is there a discussion group for your games somewhere? I couldn't find any
mention of any of the Euro iPhone Card games at RPG.net.
Any plans to revisit the AI of Gold! anytime soon?
We're discussing the game here at the Touch Arcade Forums and would love to
hear from you there:

Thanks for another great release!

Though this list has mainly been announcements, you're quite welcome to
talk about the games here.

Next month. (June.) We're going to be updating all of our games over the
next month so that the iPad icons which first appeared in Modern Art:
The Card Game can be used to crosslink to other games that you own. In
the process, I'm going to hit things I've been wanting to upgrade. That
means audio for Kingdoms (probably tomorrow), audio for High Society (in
another week), some more work on the AI for Gold!, and a fix for Money
to decrease the number of currencies with fewer people.

AIs are tricky things. I haven't released a game where the AIs didn't
jointly win at least 50% of the games against me, but sometimes
individual players are able to do things that I can't.
For Gold!, the consensus seems to be that the AI was weak for serious
players (though I've had the occasional serious player tell me the
opposite). For that reason, I definitely want to push on the AI.
However, it's a very formal and deterministic AI, so getting more oomph
out of it will be some hard work. I'm going to try to teach the AIs to
think more about the value of what they're taking, and see how that
improves things.
For Modern Art: The Card Game, I haven't seen enough response to know if
the AI is generally considered strong or weak. As always, try it on
hard. The general feedback I saw in beta tests suggested a 50% win ratio
for AIs overall. However, I also have considerable room to push Modern
Art's AI as there were some strategies that weren't fully explored and
there's considerable ability to tune the AIs because of the way they
were written. (Overall, MATCG probably has the most exhaustive and
complex AI of any of our games, but that's partly because the 5 special
cards added considerably complexity to the AI decisions.)

Thanks for the quick reply.
About gold, I noticed the AI is easy to predict and somehow it makes silly errors.
Something I have not seen in any other games of yours. It sometimes even swap donkey cards with no reason.
This is even worse on hard, which I find actually easier than normal.

Does it make the AI easier to beat? I suppose it's possible. I have in
the past added AI that made a computer player worse. As far as I know,
this didn't, however, and Michael S. really thought it was important for
the strategy of the game.
Shannon
As I said earlier the AI is preictable. As in it always stick to it's clear strategy of stacking donkeys, going for disruption of other player game or just go for points. I have not seen an AI mixing these strategies or using anything more refined, especially on hard.
Cheers

Gold! is a quite good game and very easy to learn. I also notice that AI want to swap -2 card with last card (usually low value). Anyway, it is a good strategy. And I really like this game and would recommend it to friends.
Thanks.
