I’ve been doing a bunch of work on SSL support in the CBLListener on iOS/MacOS. I just wrote up some tech notes on using SSL that may interest people:

Couchbase Lite
Sync Gateway

As a result of this work, the problems with peer-to-peer SSL connections in 1.1 should be fixed now. And the peer running the replication can now use an SSL client cert to identify itself to the other peer.
