I've recently upgraded the master branch to be compatible w/ Android Studio 0.8.2 (latest beta version).

There is a caveat regarding the import process that is documented here.

Also, the Grocery Sync demo app has not been upgraded yet, but I've added a ticket for our new developer advocate William Hoang.
