I can't open any downloaded files because of "virus scan failed". Does anyone know tricks to fix this? Or is it easier to uninstall the software and get a better antivirus software (if someone can recommend one without all the bugs McAfee has I'll be so grateful!)
I have got a problem with downloading files on my computer. every time it's incomplete with the message, Failed - Virusscan failed. I had no problem with this until april 2020. What can i do to fix this problem? I think it has to do with the anti-virus program. I have tried all the Windows fixes, but it doesn't work... Hope you can help me fix this
Hi, I purchased BitDefender Antivirus 2009 a while back, and initially, it worked fine. But now I've noticed I can't run a scan at all. No deep scans, no quick scans, nothing. I've restarted my computer and tried again, but it still won't scan. Everything else works fine (as far as I can tell, at least). Not really giving me any problems otherwise. Any suggestions?
I managed to install AV 2009 and get the services to start again, even automatically. But even then, everytime I tried to start a scan a dialog saying that wasn't possible to start a scan showed up and about 1 min later another dialog saying that the scanning services failed to respond in time. That was the problem I was having with AV 2009. Real-time worked, but on-demand didn't. I gave up on that, was set to reinstall Windows.
Problem: After installing BitDefender 2009, could not force manual scan either from the BitDefender Antivirus Security Center or selecting Bitdefender Manual Scan from Start menu. I would receive an error message: "Scan Failed To Execute" (way to go Bitdefender, nice descriptive error message)
I recently had a virus attack from the vrtob virus and could not access to run a proper scan by the time I tried to run a manual one it had been attacked and didnt work .It took me a while to do a restore and clean but was not fun and I think the lack of access to the scans made it worse.
The patch that we tested at the beginning of this thread will only work in some cases when a certain file called "tasks_system.xml" was corrupted and this is the reason why the scan wasn't running. Unfortunately this scenario does not apply in all the cases when the error message "Scan failed to execute" is generated.
I have conceived a checklist that you can use in order to go through some basic troubleshooting steps if you have the error message "Scan failed to execute" when trying to launch a scan from the dashboard:
1. Go to BitDefender -> Advanced View -> Antivirus -> Virus Scan. Check in order to see if you have "Deep system scan", "Full system scan" and so on listed there. If not, please proceed to step 4 in this list. If you have them listed there, click on one of scans and select "Scan Now";
I have the same problem. I download Bitdefender 2009 from ( _security/final/en/ - File data: 04-Mar-2009) and then I installed. After I had installed I could run scans (manually/automatically) - I did not allow any scans to finish, because the virus signature was old. Therefor I updated Bitdefender, and afterwards it was not possible to scan anymore.
The repair seems to be removing all files and installing the original scanner again. During the installation a quick scan is performed using the original virus definitions in the BitDefender installation files. The quick scan seems to work fine with the old scanners and engines. Based on this observation, a repair should do the job.
I have the same problem - BitDefender 2009, Windows Vista 64 bit... worked fine when I purchased it about 2 weeks ago... now will not scan - I get "Error - scan failed to execute" message. Also can't update. Can you please send me the patch and info on how to fix?
The virus scan failed error is not limited to Google Chrome only. You might encounter it in other popular web browsers like Microsoft Edge, and Opera as well. Clearing the browser cache and data should be the first and easiest thing you do to check if the problem is solved. Once you clear the browsing data, close the web browser and relaunch it to check if the virus scan failed error has gone or not!
Windows Defender or antivirus programs can behave very sensitively and weirdly sometimes. This proactive behavior on the part of antivirus software might block not only malicious files but safe files too. Just to make sure that your antivirus program is not conspiring to baffle you with the virus scan failed error, try to turn it off.
as said (Can't say if it will help though) thought as much. What I suggested in my last post was not ab exclusion for /var/lib/lxcfs but for the grandparent (/var - that is supposed to work) or parent (/var/lib - should have the same effect but I couldn't test) and -include the paths that are to be scanned. You don't have to specify the list on the command line, you can load it from a file.
First, I thought that it is an issue of Virus and I have purchased new Antivirus and installed it on my PC because earlier I was using free Antivirus. I have uninstalled the free Antivirus and I did a quick scan and then a full scan of my PC from Quick Heal Antivirus then no virus found. After Scanned the full computer I have tried again to download the file from the internet but the same error.
After the installation, I unable to SCAN using Immunet. It shows Scan Failed. "Your scan has failed to complete. An error has occured." Im using windows 10 64bit. Please help. Immunet version 6.2.4.10819.
Also, since a threat was detected during the scan it could be possible that Immunet was already corrupted by the malware. Have you tried to do an uninstall & reinstall? I know doing a reinstall is not a fix-all for everything but it might be worth the effort.
I do have a question though, do you normally use the ClamAV module enabled?
If so, one experiment you could try is to turn off ClamAV before a scan to see if it completes and another one with ClamAV enabled. I'm curious if the ClamAV module is causing this bug. I don't use it (only the cloud engines) since I've got Immunet paired with a different paid AV solution and am not seeing this error.
Best wishes, Ritchie...
Google Chrome has its downloader that comes in handy when we wish to download anything from the internet. You must have noticed that before downloading a quick check for viruses is carried out after which the download starts. Now, some of the users have reported that they are not able to download files on Chrome. The download fails, stating that the virus scan for the file being downloaded has failed.
In this guide, I will mention some troubleshooting tips to fix this virus scan failed error messages and download your file easily. This problem usually occurs when you are trying to download a RAR file or any such file which may have some malware or script attached to it. So, either download is denied due to the presence of such malware or the malware is messing up the way Chrome downloader would work.
Over the last few days I've read through as much material on the virusscan.xml as I can find. We've set up the AddAttachment functionality and virusscan.xml in our test environment, but can not get the virusscan to work. No matter how I tweak the virusscan.xml we still get the connection error message whenever we try to upload an attachment.
The antivirus client encountered an error, and the current scan has stopped. The scan might fail due to a client-side issue. This event record includes the scan ID, type of scan (Microsoft Defender Antivirus, antispyware, antimalware), scan parameters, the user that started the scan, the error code, and a description of the error. To troubleshoot this event:
User action: The Microsoft Defender Antivirus client update failed. This event occurs when the client fails to update itself. This event is usually due to an interruption in network connectivity during an update. To troubleshoot this event:
User action: The Microsoft Defender Antivirus client attempted to download and install the latest definitions file and failed. This error can occur when the client encounters an error while trying to load the definitions, or if the file is corrupt. Microsoft Defender Antivirus attempts to revert back to a known-good set of definitions. To troubleshoot this event:
Description: Microsoft Defender Antivirus couldn't load antimalware engine because current platform version isn't supported. Microsoft Defender Antivirus reverts back to the last known-good engine and a platform update will be attempted.
User action: You should restart the system then run a full scan because it's possible the system wasn't protected for some time. The Microsoft Defender Antivirus client's real-time protection feature encountered an error because one of the services failed to start. If it's followed by a 3007 event ID, the failure was temporary and the antimalware client recovered from the failure.
Description: Microsoft Defender Antivirus Real-time Protection has restarted a feature. It's recommended that you run a full system scan to detect any items that may have been missed while this agent was down.
Hi Srikanth - SAP recommends to activate virus scan profile but I would say it depends on the FIORI app you are developing whether it is exposed outside of the network(DMZ) or not. Your security team can give you a better idea. Anyways I will update my blog with how to activate virus scan profile for gateway.
I have a Postfix mail server, using Amavis and Spamassassin to check for unwanted e-mails. I have removed ClamAV because it'd basically freeze the whole server every time someone received an e-mail, and server-side virus-scanning does not seem to important for my use case.
For troubleshooting, you could disable the AV scanning altogether. If that works, then the AV is the issue. If you still have an issue, you may have something else operating like an AV that is separate from the AV. (application whitelisting, etc.)

I got the above message with Anti-Virus Essentials 1.38 last week. After reading several threads regarding Anti-Virus Essentials I first checked if a full virus scan would work with 1.38. It did, although it took about 2 days without so much as the slightest progress displayed in the progress bar window.
After that I uninstalled Anti-Virus Essentials via Dashboard, rebooted the EX2 Ultra by way of Dashboard and once again installed Anti-Virus Essentials by Dashboard, which since is version 1.39. I subsequently started the virus database update by use of the Dashboard, which again took almost 2 days.
