It is presumed that the title of the song is called it due to the fact that *SPOILER ALERT* Angel (Tenshi/Kanade), has Otonashi's heart in the time before her death, My soul (Angel's Soul), Your Beats! (Otonashi's Heartbeats). *SPOILER END*
These neo-soul recordings will help you become familiar with this drumming style. When you listen to these songs, first try to determine whether the drums are programmed or being played by a live drummer. Then, listen for the use of techniques like cross-sticking and hi-hat openings. Do you hear these techniques throughout entire songs or are they only used during specific sections? When you play along with these recordings, really focus on maintaining a relaxed feel. This is one of the most important elements of neo-soul drumming.
Along those lines: The overall sonic feel of Stakes Is High is playful and easy-going. Whatever fears fans may have had about the absence of Prince Paul, De La proved more than capable of maintaining without him (with a few assists by the likes of Spearhead X and then-newcomer Jay Dee/J-Dilla). Befitting an album released in early July of 1996, there's a downright summery vibe to much of Stakes thanks to a prevalence of mid-tempo beats and filtered sampling techniques; alongside OutKast's ATLiens, De La may have assembled one of the best backyard BBQ soundtracks of that year.
Then again, with 35 songs split between the two discs, there was still plenty of material for long-time fans. Songs like "Declaration," "View" (both on Mosaic Thump) and "Held Down" (Bionix) continued Posdnuos' 10+ year reign as one of the hip-hop's most underrated lyricists while singles like "Oooh" and "Thru Ya City" (both on Mosaic Thump) have bouncy club appeal, only on the group's terms (unlike their first hit from 1989, "Me, Myself and I," which De La have publicly disavowed at their own shows).
Now I face out, I hold out
I reach out to the truth of my life
Seeking to seize on the whole moment, yeah
Yeah, naked truth lies only if you realize
Appearing in nobody's eyes 'til they sterilize
Stop the guerrilla warfare to keep it fair
Bro, change your rage to a smarter greater cause
You know the stake is high, stardom is near
Those who sympathized, you died, killers pass you by
Do not waste your time hating flirting guys
Use your might to AIs to do justice to them all
Now I face out, I hold out
I reach out to the truth of my life
Seeking to seize on the whole moment to now break away
Oh, God, let me out
Can you let me out?
Can you set me free from this dark inner world?
Save me now, last beat in the soul
Now I face out, I hold out
I reach out to the truth of my life
Seeking to seize on the whole moment, yeah
Yeah, naked truth lies only if you realize
Appearing in nobody's eyes 'til they sterilize
Stop the guerrilla warfare to keep it fair

During a visit to Washington in the autumn of 1861, poet Julia Ward Howe attended a public parade and review of Union troops. On her way back to Willard's Hotel she found her carriage delayed by marching regiments. To spend some time, she and her cohorts in the carriage sang a few of the war songs so popular those days, among them, "John Brown's Body," which contained the provocative words, "John Brown's body lies-a-mouldering in the ground.... His soul is marching on."
Howe would have assumed that the John Brown of the song was the famous abolitionist. But the song belonged to a young Scotsman in the Massachusetts Volunteer Militia who shared Brown's name.
The Scotsman was well aware of John Brown the abolitionist. Having the same name made him a prime target for many good-natured jokes. As the soldiers marched, they would hammer out, in folk-song fashion, the tune that Julia Ward Howe would later hear. Lines like "His Soul's Marching On" were meant to tease the Scotsman. But as the catchy verse traveled to other units, it was known only as a song about the John Brown who was captured at Harpers Ferry. New verses were constantly added:
Although there have been multiple remixes, most recently Riton and Nightcrawlers released 'Friday' in 2021, with Mufasa & Hypeman. The song was another big hit, reaching the Top 5 in the UK.

Paradise Garage Legendary Dee Jay David DePino Great job...Larry would have loved it.
The words "Alternative Facts" has slipped out the lips of every American, being under sharp criticism from journalists and media organizations and being the butt of all jokes by the savagery of social media.
"There was really no concept in saying 'I'll think I'll go make a track about 'Alternative Facts', no," Mikki says. "It didn't happen that way, it chose me, I didn't choose it."
The phrase went viral when it was used by U.S. Counselor to the President Kellyanne Conway during a Meet the Press interview on January 22, 2017, in which she defended White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer's false statement about the attendance at Donald Trump's inauguration as President of the United States.
"The main point of making 'Alternative Facts' I guess actually..which is crazy the day that I was watching the news, and she said it, I was looking at her like 'Did she just say that?'" Mikki explains. "Before I can say anything, Chuck Todd asked her what she meant because there are no alternative facts. But if you read in 1994, they do use that term 'alternative facts', but it's just the same term as a lie."
"Alternative Facts" is not your typical souful house track. It's on a more progressive level, going more into Euro Beat.
"As an artist I wanted to show various sides of me being a producer," says Mikki. "I started with this beat. The track reminds me of " Tell Me I'm Not Dreaming" by Was(Not Was) 1982 a Paradise Garage classic.
"I want the listener to be woke," Mikki says. "I played it at the Winter Music Conference this past March and the dancers went banana's. I wanted the snares drums to sound like a military marching band.
Which I use as the hook in the track. The dancers got it right away. For me that's the most important thing, am I connecting with the dancers.
I knew I wanted to make a video, but I didn't really want to make it too political, but show the conspiracy theory's that we have always thought about in the US. The opening scene is an eye opener. The video was directed by myself and actor Adrian Luke Sinclair.
He was wonderful is executing my concept.
I also had my niece in editing a few scenes for me, she's a junior in film school. But it was Luke who totally brought the video to life.
In the visuals to the track, it leaves a quote: "No matter what we go through, we still dance."
"I remember 9/11 and seeing both buildings crumble, having lost people that were dear to me and coworkers, I never forgot that chapter of history. This happened on a Tuesday 9/11 " Mikki explains. "and that Friday on 9/14, there were parties that told us, 'Let's not cry, let's unite. Let's dance,' and no matter what's going on in the world, we just dance."

Much of the soundtrack is fast-paced metal or rock with breakbeat, mixed with some calm songs interspersed throughout. Many of the songs use MIDI tracks as a base, overlaying actual instruments to add depth, giving the game's soundtrack its classic yet modern feel. Frequently sampled by ULTRAKILL's songs is the Amen break, an insanely widespread drum sample that is frequently used in popular music.
