Greetings all,

Please remember Hospice Day at the Capitol is this Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2017.  If you have not signed up but still would like to come, email Crystal at cry...@mohospice.org.  It is extremely important that we show ourselves at the Capitol.  Come on out and support hopsice with us at the Missouri Capitol.

House Health and Mental Health Policy

Representative Keith Frederick’s committee met on Wednesday to hear testimony on three bills. First up was Rep. Holly Rehder’s HB 88 that would help establish a needle exchange program here in Missouri. Two witnesses with personal stories of drug addiction testified in support. . Then Rep. Frederick presented his HB 121 which would add psychiatrists to the list of individuals eligible for the Health Professional Student Loan Repayment Program. The Coalition of Community Mental Health Centers and the Missouri Hospital Association testified in support of the bill. Finally, Rep. Tila Hubrecht presented her HB 405 that specifies that the county coroner or medical examiner need not be notified and no investigation is necessary for a death that occurs under hospice care. Hospice Compassus and the Missouri Hospital Association testified in support of the bill.  MHPCA was there in support of the bill.

The committee then moved into executive session and voted out Rep. Frederick’s HB 569 which establishes the Compassionate Medical Education Act and HB 381 by Rep. Evans which changes the laws around health care records of deceased patients. These bills will now move on to the House Rules Committee for Administrative Oversight.

HB -144 Representative McGaugh Designated Health Care Decision Maker Act has a hearing this Tuesday, Feb 14, 2017.  MHPCA does not support this bill with its current language.  The bill will be heard in Representative McGaugh’s committee.
