MN bans on nuclear and coal are both under siege. YEA! MN co-chairs,
Cole (Blake School) and Siiri (Stillwater HS) are testifying in front
of the MN state legislature in partnership with MEP on Jan 18th. Check
out the article below from the Associated Press.

Minnesota panel votes to undo nuclear ban

From the Associated Press, 1/11/2011

A proposal to clear the way for new nuclear power plants in Minnesota
has passed its first committee in the Republican-controlled
Legislature.

The House Environment, Energy and Natural Resources Committee approved
the bill on a 10-6 vote today.

The bill's sponsor, Rep. Joyce Peppin of Rogers, says lifting a 1994
moratorium on new nuclear power plants will allow utilities to
consider nuclear energy as they plan for future demand. Peppin says
renewable energy sources such as wind and solar aren't reliable
enough.

Opposition came from environmental groups and Democrats on the panel
who say they're concerned that ratepayers will end up paying more.
The bill's next stop is the House Commerce Committee.

This is going to pass both houses of the legislature.  Dayton will most likely veto it.  The real question is will the Democrats have to votes to stop an override?  Remember, a repeal of the ban on new nuclear plants passed the State Senate last year, when the chamber was controlled by the DFL.

My earlier post should say "have the votes" not "have to votes".
